Sir Ken Adam’s visionary designs forever changed the look of spy thrillers and science fiction cinema.
Yet his own real-life story during WW2 was every bit as extraordinary.
Fleeing Nazi Germany as a young Jewish refugee, he became a fighter pilot in the British RAF:

George Spencer served through some of the defining moments of WW2, including D-Day aboard HMS Nelson, before dedicating four decades to the Royal Navy. ⚓ ❤️
As he celebrates his 100th birthday, his service and commitment continue to inspire generations.
Join us in wishing him a happy birthday!

Commemoration is at the core of what we do. It is a throughline that links us all in a common, shared history. It asks generations to interact, remember, and interpret the past.

For over 100 years, the Foreign, Commonwealth & Development Office has stood at the heart of the National Service of Remembrance.
This Sunday at 11am, we join the nation in pausing to honour those who gave everything.
To remember. To respect. To never forget.
To those who have served in our Armed Forces, and to those who continue to do so, as a nation today we give our thanks, we pay our respects and we strive to serve you as you have served us.
#LestWeForget
Today, we pause to honour the brave men and women who gave their lives in service to our country. Their courage, sacrifice, and unwavering commitment to freedom will never be forgotten.
As we observe the silence, we remember not only those who fell in battle, but all who continue to bear the unseen wounds of service.
We will remember them. 🌹
Our dedicated team are once again busy preparing the Field of Remembrance at @wabbey, open to all from Friday. We're proud that this year's Field features several new plots including those representing @fightingwpride and our partner charity @ArmyBenFund
📸 The Chief of the Defence Staff @UKCDS_MOD out supporting the @PoppyLegion Poppy Appeal this morning.
We wear the poppy to remember all who served, and to support our veterans and their families.
Their legacy of service and dedication lives on in today's Armed Forces.

Sam served three tours in Afghanistan and faced post-traumatic stress after leaving the military. Tragically, he took his own life last year at just 36.
Morgan House will now stand as his legacy, offering a safe, supportive space for veterans to receive care, counselling, and community.
We’re proud to have provided a Veterans’ Foundation grant to Healthier Heroes CIC, helping make Morgan House possible. 💙

At 101, D-Day veteran Tony Bird has been presented with new WW2 medals, 55 years after his originals were stolen.🎖️🇬🇧
"Nowadays, with these marvellous volunteers commemorating D-Day, VJ-Day and VE-Day, one needs to wear one’s medals," he said.
Tony served in the Royal Navy during the 1944 Normandy landings and later in Asia before leaving the forces in 1946. We are grateful for his service. ❤️
