And citizens are paying for it with shockingly long emergency wait times due to catastrophically low officer numbers.

At any given time, there are only about 45 to 60 active Portland Police officers working a shift. This means that for a city the size of Portland, that's about one active officer for every 14,000+ residents.

Last month, bystanders repeatedly called police in an emergency situation in downtown where a naked man was trying to violently kidnap a 7-year-old girl. There weren't officers nearby to deploy, resulting in significant delays and people having to grab the child in a tug-of-war.

On social media, leftists say these incidents show that police aren't helping people anyway and should therefore be completely abolished.
