Sebastian’s question hadn’t been answered but he sighed and took the offered hand. He had no idea what the other spawn was planning but he would follow along for now.
His head turned, sight peers onward into nothingness. Not like his attention was on their sorrowful environment. His mass thoughts wouldn’t allow him to care about such. Would words even work in this conversation? He pondered until—
It sounds… Too good to be true. No offense to you of course. I just got into my current situation due to my naïveté. I prefer to know what all parties involved have to gain
“But you didn’t do it. You had the opportunity to damn us all. Hells, many wouldn’t have even blamed you for taking that option. But you didn’t. That matters.”
“I don’t-“ He felt like a broken record at this point. Sebastian read the sincerity in Astarion’s eyes, but it only left him confused.
“You could have anyone you wanted. I may hate to admit it but you’re gorgeous, charming, strong, brave.”
He turned his head back to the man. His eyes not showing the slightest lack of determination.
“I’m serious, Sebastian. I was afraid years ago. More than you know. Never was I much a social person. But your presence brought comfort to me. That’s what drew me in. Not your purity.”
“You’re telling me you’re actually interested in me?” Sebastian seemed incredulous at the very idea. It had been hard to believe even back in that tavern when he was first approached. It was even harder now.
He scoffed, turning his head away from Sebastian.
“Who said I was doing it for either purposes? Believe it or not…. I enjoyed our past connections. You helped me remember what it felt like to be alive before Cazador consumed my mind. Made me do what I’d forever regret.”
“I can’t say I understand you.” Sebastian’s attention turned back to Astarion curiously.
“I know why you chose me before - a virgin desperate for love is easy prey. But what could I possibly have to offer you now? I don’t need you by my side out of guilt or pity.”
“Well… How about this? You seek companionships? Let’s start with us, shall we?”
He folded his arms over his chest. The man practically voicing out what was in his thoughts without realizing it.
“That fiend is not around to manipulate us, no? We can use this as a chance to—
“It would be a lie to say that I was not the ravenous beast terrorizing my cell mates on occasion, so I can’t blame them. But the circumstance made finding companionship among each other difficult.”
He frowned from his words. So short, it was, yet Astarion already wanted to hug away his sadness again. The elf rose from his seat, thinking.
“You’re not wrong. When your stomach feels this agonizing from hunger, there really isn’t room for logic. You see those near you—
“The first few decades I was alone. I thought the isolation would drive me mad.” Sebastian let go of Astarion’s hand with a sigh.
“I was almost happy when he came to ‘visit’. You can imagine my self disgust with those thoughts.”
>
“Oh, stop being prude. It ruins your cute looks.”
He tried to pull his hand away. . . but the strange of his grip was stronger than he remembered. And almost impressive.
“And furthermore, I wasn’t referring you to myself. That was a legitimate question. Despite your…. this…—
“You are nothing like him! You did what you had to in order to survive his madness and cruelty. You didn’t have a choice. But he always did. He had power, wealth, immortality, but still he desires more.” Sebastian put down the bow and approached Astarion. “It’s not the same.”
“Haha. Would you look at that.”
Astarion brought up a finger and pressed it onto the tip of Sebastian’s nose.
“You’re finally acknowledging your wonderful traits. I wonder who brought out your confidence.”
“Of course. When we find them we can ask them to attend.” Sebastian was pleased Daevune seemed optimistic about it. He wouldn’t let the memory of Cazador spoil anything else for them if he could help it.
The boy hummed softly...this gentle reassurance...he missed this...
❝Thanks Sebastian...maybe...maybe I will do a birthday again....maybe El and Er can be there since this will be my....second birthday since...this.❞
He said softly and pulled away...
❝Besides...having a +
They were all forever changed. Monsters who would surely crave even the blood of their dearest relatives. But… part of Sebastian couldn’t understand.
“I guess… I guess I’d just give anything to see them again. Maybe that’s easy for me to say knowing it will never happen.”
Sebastian nodded in understanding and lined up a shot as he listened. He wasn’t nearly as close to the center of the tree as Astarion.
“I’m sorry your time with him was cut short but… You’re an elf right? They could both still be alive. Maybe you should seek them out.”
“Mine did as well but I never thought to-“ No, that sounded judgmental. He didn’t judge Astarion for becoming what he needed to survive. Sebastian couldn’t say for certain who he’d be if their roles were switched.
“Tell me about him. If you don’t mind.”
Sebastian took the bow and watched Astarion. Thinking of people as animals felt… wrong but it stirred something instinctually within him. The vampire inside him could not help but see others as prey.
“Did Cazador allow you to train or did you have these skills before?”
