On April 1st, 2026, Burkina Faso celebrated the first anniversary of its Progressive Popular Revolution (RPP), launched the previous year under the leadership of Burkina Faso President Captain Ibrahim Traoré, and modeled after the Democratic and Popular Revolution (RDP) initiated in 1983 by then Burkina Faso President and Pan-Africanist icon Thomas Sankara (1949 – 1987).
