Every time I think I've unlearned patriarchy, I do something that reminds me I still have internalised misogyny. 😭 You really just have to keep unlearning.
Today, I called someone in my shortlet network about an apartment. They had their company logo as their profile picture, no personal photo. The moment I heard a woman's voice, I was genuinely shocked because I'd automatically assumed it was a man. I don't even know why.
Another time, I saw a child, about 5 or 6, walking alone around 10 p.m. My first reaction was, "Where is your mother?" Not, "Where is your father?" As if children only belong to women.
God abeg, this patriarchy thing is deeply wired into all of us. The unlearning never really stops.

Why should they need orientation on NOT RAPING GIRLS/MINORS & WOMEN??? “How things work over there” because it’s fully acceptable in when they do it in Nigeria or what?
