This week I was told “I ~used~ to work the help desk, no offense.”

I wondered why I would be offended.

In tech, help desk/support roles are seen as “entry-level,” even though they require:

•systems knowledge
•emotional intelligence
•conflict management
•multitasking
•pattern recognition
•communication skills
•and patience

People who start in help desk often have some of the deepest, most holistic understanding of how an organization’s systems, users, and how processes really work.

No offense taken. Help desk humbles you and teaches you the stuff textbooks never will.

I’m proud of my work. And if they had taken a moment to ask, they would have learned I’ve supported some of the most amazing leaders this world has to offer in the most interesting of scenarios.

I bet they haven’t done that. 🤓

In the UK, before you are searched the officer has to articulate the offence or reasonable ground for suspicion. I didn't hear these officers articulate what these fellows are being suspected of.
