This is fascinating to me, because beyond the surface level it illuminates why conservatives are often so full of shit.
The baseline here is that there's a heatwave, and Mamdani asked New Yorkers to adjust their thermostats to help the grid. This is regular practice in red and blue areas of the country. Daniel posts a defiant "I'm not gonna do what mommy tells me!" style post. He surely thinks he's a very clever boy here.
Now if the message is "This is a free country, and I love my AC, and by god it's my house and no government bureaucrat can force me to change", then fine. Sure. But there is no law being proposed here. No police are bursting down your door demanding to check your thermostat. It's a request from a community leader, a polite ask that you engage in a very small pro-social sacrifice.
You would think conservatives would understand the idea that local communities should pull together in times of need. For the 'common good', perhaps. You'd think. And that they'd be happy if no government force was involved, if they could act merely because they had strong moral character and believed in private charitable action.
"Nobody should ever ask anyone to sacrifice for the common good, even if it's just a polite request" is just dipshit nihilism.
But I suspect Daniel doesn't actually believe in those conservative ideas. Or if he does, they're a distant second to the true guiding star of conservative thought: owning the libs. Given the chance to help people or own the libs, conservatives will always own the libs. Given the chance to demonstrate strong principles or own the libs, they'll always abandon the principle to own the libs. The actual philosophy of the right is merely "We hate the left". And it's sad.
If you knew the back story(ies), you would cry too.
Raúl Jiménez has played at four World Cups. Across Brazil, Russia and Qatar, he never scored a single goal. Today, on home soil at the Estadio Azteca, that finally changed. And the moment broke him.
The tears obviously carried years. In March 2026, just three months ago, Jiménez lost his father Raúl Jiménez Vega to pancreatic cancer at the age of 62. He was a pivotal figure in his son's career. That goal was for him.
And there was more beneath it. In 2020, playing for Wolves against Arsenal, Jiménez fractured his skull in a collision with David Luiz. He lay unconscious on the pitch while teammates and family feared the worst.
It took emergency surgery and eight months to return. He still wears the protective headband today. Many of us thought it was over back then. 6 years later, at 35, Jimenez’s story is still being written.
Just think about it. A near-fatal injury, a grieving son and a 12-year wait for one World Cup goal, finally answered in front of his own people.
This is why we watch football. Not for the trophies. For the human underneath. Don’t you just love it.

See, the veiled (or not so veiled) racism here is exactly what is behind a lot of the takes behind Dart's political appearance and Carter's one tweet, two sentence, bewilderment. Dart is standing with his gorgeous girlfriend living his life and Carter is with his MOTHER at an event. I guess that sums it up, huh ... we are supposed to love the good looking white couple and we are supposed to cringe at the black kid, with his Mom, and the fact they are Muslim. And the white football player beating the drum for a racist, anti-immigrant, corrupt, warmongering, pedophile-protecting, Muslim-hating, insurrectionist-rewarding, excuse for a President was just being an American. And the black kid who put up one tweet of disbelief is the immature, bad teammate. Fuck no to that.
Peeling back the curtain just a little here..
El Grande Americano is visible very emotional here at the love and admiration from the Mexican fans. Given the tough week that he has had this is a symbol of the respect that people have for not only Americano but Marcel Barthel. It's their way of saying "we don't doubt you..we are here for you" and that understandably has gotten him choked up. There's way more meaning here than what we see on a surface level for him.
It's all capped off by Andrea Bazarte looking down from a height lovingly at her man. She is so proud of him. She knows just what this means to him to hear all of this and to feel this reaction, especially given this week of events. El Grande Americano started off as a joke character but has given this man a life that he could never have even dreamed of.
A German man, dressed as an American luchador, who speaks Spanish...shouldn't work on paper. It sounds daft...however for all of these people because of his dedication and love for the business and the character, Americano has become an absolute megastar. He has found his people in Mexico. They have accepted him as one of their own. They are his extended family..
This man is the future of AAA and I'm glad to see that he's happy and that he understands that the people support him. This is something truly special.
This working-class guy with the American flag showed up to protest, first time ever, because he saw terrified kids running from ICE on the news and couldn’t just sit there.
MAGA will call him a snowflake for crying.
I say: If children scared out of their minds doesn’t make you tear up, if your nation losing its soul doesn’t break your heart, then take those flags out of your profile pics. They don’t belong there.

The US spent 70 years building a country optimized for cars instead of people. This is what that looks like at full resolution.
MetLife Stadium sits on 2.1 million square feet of parking. 28,000 spaces. The parking lots are larger than the stadium itself. The entire Meadowlands complex was purpose-built so that the only way a human being can reach it is inside a 4,000-pound metal box. The New Jersey State Police printed that sign because pedestrians were never part of the design.
And here’s where it gets interesting: the 2026 World Cup Final is being played at this stadium in five months. FIFA’s biggest event on Earth, hosted at a venue where walking is literally illegal. International fans from countries where you stroll to the stadium from a pub three blocks away are about to encounter a place where the nearest hotel requires a car to travel a distance you can see with your eyes.
The US has 700 million to 2 billion parking spaces. Eight parking spots for every car in the country. Parking lots cover more than 5% of all developed land, an area larger than Rhode Island and Delaware combined. Minimum parking requirements forced every building, every stadium, every shopping center to dedicate more square footage to storing empty vehicles than to serving the humans inside. American cities didn’t accidentally become unwalkable. They were zoned that way.
During the recent Club World Cup at MetLife, only 12.5% of fans used public transit to reach the stadium. The other 87.5% drove. Now imagine that ratio flipping for the World Cup, when the majority of attendees will be international visitors without cars. NJ Transit is spending $100 million to try to move 20,000 people per hour through a single transfer point at Secaucus Junction, a system that already had door malfunctions and 13-minute delays during games with 29,000 fans. Scale that to 82,500.
The sign in this hotel lobby is American car culture in a single frame: we built the richest country on Earth, then made it illegal to walk across it.
Let’s cut off the American military from the country’s most important and prestigious academic institution. That’ll definitely help produce a better officer corps and military scholarship.
MAGA thinks performative disdain of elite education is some badge of honor because decades of outrage slop has utterly eroded their appreciation for learning. They’re incurious morons hostile to any form of genuine enlightenment.
If “leftist” were right about Trump, he wouldn’t be in that office for a second term rn.
Hillary Clinton was correct about Trump.
Kamala Harris was correct about Trump.
Both Democrats btw.
The people who worked with him in the past, were correct about Trump.
Trump was correct about Trump.
Folks with a brain who saw through Donald Trumps bullshit, were correct about Trump.
Y’all simply refused to listen.
