Debunking the Phantom Debts and Ecological Loan Fallacy

My attention has been drawn to trending claims by the Anambra State Government that my administration left behind inherited debts, including a ₦2 billion ecological loan, contractor liabilities, and unpaid salaries, gratuities, and pensions. This is completely false.

We systematically liquidated historical gratuities and arrears dating back several years, amounting to over ₦35 billion. At the point of handover, the state owed nothing in salaries, gratuities, or pensions, nor did we owe anything to any contractor for projects duly executed and certified.

The ₦2 billion ecological fund in question was released barely three months before the end of my tenure for the Oko/Umuchiana erosion crisis. Despite pressure to spend the money, I refused, insisting that it should be left for my successor because government is a continuum and the funds were tied to a specific project.

The money was therefore left 100 per cent intact in First Bank, in Account No. 2018779464, with a balance of over ₦2.13 billion.

It is important to stress that funds tied to specific projects or set aside for particular purposes were not even included in the over ₦75 billion in savings we left behind.

If anybody can establish anything to the contrary, I will stop campaigning. -PO

Peter Obi is the reason Nigeria is relatively peaceful today. He has the capacity to shut down the country, but he won’t do that. His love for you trumps his ambition. He doesn’t want any harm to come your way. It is obvious the APC are the sponsors of the terrorism going on. They pull all the levers of power.

It is so because that is the power you gave to them. Their authority is what you say it is.

They fear unity, they will challenge any attempt to unite Nigerians. What Peter Obi represents is dangerous, it has the capacity to end impunity & criminality for good. They see in him, the capacity to galvanize Nigerians toward nation-building. One nation, under God, moving with a shared purpose. The APC cannot have that!

They would rather see the country burn to rule over its ashes. One candidate is Awol, hidden away in an undisclosed location, no one knows where he is. Meanwhile, Nigeria's official presidential jet is parked somewhere in Europe, accumulating debt on your behalf. In contrast, another candidate is traveling across Nigeria, doing his best to help citizens get started.

Yet, despite his efforts, he faces constant attacks from the government in power.

The government is truly unwise. The more you persecute Peter, the more Nigerians will rally to his cause. History is replete with examples.

In a place where anarchy rules, the innocent is the one receiving the most abuse. In a place where peace reigns, only the guilty is afraid.

They fear the candidate who supposedly came third, & now something has to give. We must activate every directorate of the OK Movement.

People must organize a welcoming party on the ground in every state, ready to welcome Peter Obi & mobilize for his protection. We have many powers we haven't even used. Fear is the enemy; they rule through fear. When people fear you, they will come to respect you.

This is not the time to cower; our mothers gave birth to no cowards. Once we lose our sense of fear, we are free. My People, there is a battle ahead. Ready yourselves, BE PREPARED! 💪

This story is almost a political parable about the transactional nature of Nigerian party politics.

A man reportedly storming an APC secretariat after claiming he spent ₦30 million supporting the party in 2023, only to later feel betrayed, raises an uncomfortable question about the political culture surrounding the ruling party.

Forget the drama for a moment.

Think about the mentality behind the complaint.

If someone spends ₦30 million on a political party and later expects something in return, was that participation in democracy or an investment awaiting political dividends?

And if supporters genuinely believe loyalty to APC should guarantee appointments, contracts, influence or political rewards, then Nigerians should worry about the system being created.

Politics should not operate like:

Bring money.
Mobilise voters.
Help us win.
Then wait for your reward.

That is precisely the transactional politics Nigeria must outgrow.

President Tinubu’s APC cannot build a credible political movement merely by assembling people around access to power. Eventually, expectations collide with reality, disappointed loyalists begin speaking publicly, and internal contradictions become visible.

The lesson ahead of 2027 is bigger than one angry supporter.

Nigeria needs politics built around ideas, competence, accountability and measurable improvements in people's lives, not a marketplace where political loyalty is treated like an invoice payable after elections.

If the man's account is accurate, perhaps the funniest part is that he appears to have discovered an ancient rule of transactional politics:
