Today, I received a credit alert of ₦100,000 in my Opay account from a Polaris Bank account. The moment I saw the alert, I instinctively changed my sitting position and immediately began thinking about two urgent bills that needed to be settled.

However, when I checked the sender's name, it was unfamiliar. I told those around me that I had received money from someone I did not know and that the transfer might have been made in error, as I had neither discussed money nor conducted any business with such a person.

A few minutes later, the sender called. He said he was calling from Òkè-Ìlá in Osun State. His voice was shaky, and he sounded genuinely frightened. It was obvious that he feared I might not return the money. He explained how he had mistakenly sent the money to my account and pointed out the striking similarity between my phone number and that of the intended recipient.

I calmly told him I understood the situation. After asking a few relevant questions to verify his claim, I immediately transferred the money back to the account details he provided. He called back almost instantly, overwhelmed with gratitude, and offered countless prayers.

Indeed, my faith was tested because I also needed money urgently. But that was not the kind of money I needed. The money was not mine, and it would have been neither right nor humane to spend even one naira from it, no matter how difficult my situation might be.

May we always find the strength to do what is right whenever our faith, character, and integrity are tested.
