They increased school fees, made students take loans just to get through university, and then turn around after graduation to tell them to fry akara and kuli-kuli. How is someone supposed to pay back their student loan, build a house, raise a family, buy a car, take a vacation, and invest in their own growth, all while trying to compete with their peers across the world by frying akara and kuli kuli?

What is happening to women in Afghanistan is not some strange distortion of Islam. It is Islam being applied by people who claim to take it seriously.

The Taliban have turned Afghanistan into the world's largest prison for women.

Girls are banned from school after age 12. Women are banned from universities. Afghanistan is the only country on earth enforcing such a policy.

Women have been pushed out of most jobs. They are banned from government positions, NGOs, sports, gyms, parks, and even beauty salons. Not a single woman has a leadership role under Taliban rule.

Women are ordered to cover their faces in public. New morality laws demand that they hide their voice, face, and body. They cannot travel long distances without a male guardian. In some places, they cannot even sit freely in a car.

The Ministry of Women's Affairs was abolished. Protections for women were dismantled. Even domestic abuse is treated with shocking leniency.

Yet Muslims keep telling us Islam honours and protects women.

The gap between what is preached and what is practised is impossible to ignore.

The establishment is ignoring the rest because Peter Obi remains the singular threat they dread. The ghost of 2023 still haunts them. They know the true weight of the numbers and how dangerously close they came to the edge. Even forcing them to pull off unprecedented legal gymnastics just to get the courts to overlook the FCT 25% requirement.

It was a logistical and public relations nightmare. They are fully aware that despite commanding state power, vast resources, and a coalition of over 32 governors, Obi retains the exact same explosive potential to disrupt their plans. Only INEC and them know what the numbers they saw in 2023 - the fear is unusual.

He was 28.

The novel was called "Things Fall Apart."

By the time he died in 2013, it had sold over 20 million copies and been translated into more than 57 languages.

But here is what matters more than the sales figures:

Chinua Achebe wrote "Things Fall Apart" because he was tired of books like Joseph Conrad's "Heart of Darkness", books that treated Africa as a backdrop for European adventures, where Africans had no names, no history, no inner life.

He took Okonkwo, an Igbo rich yam farmer, flawed, arrogant, human and real, and placed him at the centre of his own story.

He didn't write for Europeans.

He wrote for Igbo people.

For Africans.

He wrote so that the people who had been made invisible in world literature could look at a page and see themselves.

"Things Fall Apart" is not just a novel.

It is the moment Africa told the world: we were here, we were complex, we were whole, before you arrived.
