1) I've been doing harm reduction work for 15 years and I've learned a few lessons about how to talk about it with people who aren't quite there yet.
I presented on this a few years ago and I'm going to share my slides and talking points here with you today -
The only time that the words tweaker, junkie, or crackhead should be used is by people who are self-identifying or have requested to be referred to as such. These are SLURS. They are HARMFUL. They degrade and "other" friends and strangers alike.
@hilaryagro The harm reduction movement is healing what carceral drug policy and abstinence-only dogma broke for me. I can't go back in time and help the people I love, but I can dedicate myself to preventing other people from experiencing the same struggles.
#HarmReduction Work Titles that can be used instead of using “Peer” as a sole title. Having a title reflecting the expertise that the person brings!
