Founded in 1882, the historic Westwood High School in Stewart Town, Trelawny, one of Jamaica’s oldest all-girls boarding institutions, has suffered extensive damage following the passage of Hurricane Melissa.
Aerial footage shows severe destruction to the auditorium, dining hall, and hillside classrooms, along with the Woodland Building that houses part of the school’s boarding facilities.
Cleanup efforts are expected to begin soon as the school community works to rebuild.

Guys, stop peddle the “Kingston is SOOOO blessed” narrative. I’ve lived here a minute, you’re no more righteous than those in the West. It’s simply science and luck.
Focus on helping those in need amongst our affected brothers and sisters in whatever way necessary.
I wish more people in Kingston would look beyond their own realities.
Other parishes are already facing severe flooding, damaged homes, crops destroyed, and farmers losing animals they spent months rearing.
This hurricane is no joke.
