You're sad because you lack passion, and this lack of passion stems from not trusting yourself. This distrust comes from falling into all-or-nothing, perfectionistic ways of thinking, which you use as a coping mechanism. Your brain believes this mechanism protects you, a belief formed because at some point in your life, you were punished for being your authentic self. As a result, you've learned to protect yourself from environments or people that made you feel unsafe. You've become so skilled at this protection that you haven't realized these coping mechanisms, once necessary, are now outdated and are causing more harm than good. They make you feel stuck, hopeless, unmotivated, and even more disconnected from your true self.
The good news is, you can change this dynamic. Start by giving yourself more grace and compassion, allowing yourself to be human. Challenge your all-or-nothing thinking by rebuilding your connection and trust with yourself. Give yourself credit for what you do accomplish, acknowledge your progress and setbacks with kindness, and avoid self-shaming or punishment. Spend more time getting to know yourself, creating a safe space within. Engage in activities like journaling to express yourself authentically.
The election is not just a choice between two candidates but a reflection of America's vision for its future, with policies on democracy, economy, and social issues at the forefront. Every vote counts in what's shaping up to be one of the most critical elections in recent history.
