I often hear calls for former military officers, ex-police personnel, or retired security operatives to be appointed as ministers, particularly for critical portfolios like Defence and Interior, in place of politicians or technocrats. With all due respect, I disagree.
Take the Distinguished Honourable Dr. Hon. @BTOofficial, @MinOfInteriorNG, who currently oversees our homeland security apparatus. He is neither ex-military nor ex-paramilitary, yet under his leadership we are witnessing transformative progress at a pace and scale rarely seen before.
What we truly need to resolve the leadership crisis in the Ministry of Defence, and indeed in every strategic ministry, are patriotic Nigerians who can think creatively and act decisively. We do not need individuals who were part of the very system that created or tolerated the problems we face today.
The fundamental issue plaguing our institutions is not a lack of military or security experience, but a profound deficit of patriotism. Too many of those in or aspiring to these positions are loyal primarily to individuals, ethnic agendas, or identity-based politics, not to Nigeria as a nation.
Their true priorities were laid bare when many of them loudly defended institutional corruption, land grabbing, and other abuses of power, yet remained conspicuously silent, or worse, evasive, about the rampant insecurity ravaging our country. Those who seek high office merely for the title, prestige, and perks, without any genuine intention to deliver results, have no business occupying these seats at the nation’s expense.
Ministers are not required to carry guns or micromanage field operations, that is the job of trained professionals. Their role is to provide visionary leadership, clearly articulate the administration’s objectives, align the institutions under them with national priorities, and demand accountability.
We must reject the culture of personality cults and institutional cliques that continue to hold our progress hostage. I did not need to join the Nigeria Police Force to champion and drive meaningful reforms from the outside, as an ordinary citizen, without holding public office or belonging to any political party. For over ten years now, those reforms have been consistently implemented, monitored, and sustained. If one committed citizen can achieve that, imagine what a cabinet filled with genuine patriots could accomplish.
What Nigeria needs is not more uniforms in the council chambers, but more patriots in the corridors of power. 🚔

Governance in Nigeria is still something done TO citizens, not something done FOR citizens or WITH citizens. 25 years into our current democracy, the military mindset is still alive and well.
who’s going to tell our positive stories for us?
I observed Lufthansa airline passengers from Frankfurt complete immigration in less than 30 minutes yesterday, it was sheer brilliance to watch the men and women of the NIS at their best

Alcohol ads use themes like happiness, prestige, sophistication, success, maturity, athletic ability, creativity, sexual satisfaction to target consumers.
But the misuse of alcohol actually diminishes and ultimately destroys these qualities if you drink enough.
My dad left home on Friday and we haven't seen him since then. He left home without any means of communication. He was wearing a similar outfit to the one in the picture below.
Please share and retweet and join us in prayers, thanks
