There are two types of diabetes.
Diabetes type 1 and diabetes type 2
Type 1 is caused by inability of the body to produce insulin due pancreatic incompetence.
Without insulin
Your body ability to absorb nutrients from the blood is impaired.
Leading to plethora of complications.
Including the above called diabetic ketoacidosis.
This is the principal symptom of diabetes type 1.
Very rare or even non existent in type 2 diabetes.
Why am I posting this?
Because most people don't know the difference between the two.
Someone had a row with me awhile back that sugar doesn't cause diabetes.
His argument was that there are people that haven't taken sugar but have diabetes which is correct

You know the problem is people have patches of knowledge about something and claim to know it all.
In a quest to feel superior and good they end up spitting a lot of trash
I have read a lot of books on nutrition, still I'm very open to learning especially from my patients.
Aside Twitter, I work in a hospital. I know how they have swept the importance of good nutrition under the carpet.
But most of the diseases you spend thousands of money on drugs can be solved with simple diet change.
I can confidently say I have done it so I know.
Type 1 diabetes is a disease of lack, type 2 diabetes is a disease of excess.
In type one your cells are starved of food, in type 2 your cells are full of food and are now resistance to insulin.
Insulin promote storage, your body has a storage capacity
So let's put in this wayType 1 diabetes is just absense of insulin, corrected when insulin is replaced.
Type 2 is combination of carbs/sugar + excessive eating + stress + time
Type 2 is more common than type 1, because a lot of people are doing the above. Type 2 diabetes is a symptom of insulin resistance.
Insulin resistance can be there for years before reflecting on your blood sugar.
That's the point people miss, if you start having diabetes today
The issue already started like 10years ago. Other symptoms of insulin resistance include
-Fatty liver
-High blood triglycerides
-Low HDL
-HBP
-High blood sugar
-Excessive hunger/cravings
- High waistline
-Oily face
-Chronic joint pains
-Wrinkling of skin
-Even gut issues
The good news is, all these can be reversed but better prevented.
