It’s understandable to ask questions about the delay because everyone is eager to see the CNG buses and tricycles running on campus.

First, as regards the CNG station, it was almost completed during my tenure, with only minor finishing touches left. On Tuesday, 17th February 2026, I was contacted that the station would be commissioned on Thursday, 20th February (which was yesterday).
However, I informed them that I had already handed over and shared the contact of my successor. I also notified him that he would be contacted. I didn’t follow up afterwards to confirm if the commissioning eventually held on that date.

That said, the commissioning of the station is just one part of the process, and it's just one of the may factors affecting the rollout of the vehicles.

It must be worthy of mention that, this is the first time in a very long while that Obafemi Awolowo University will be directly managing its own transportation system. That’s a significant shift, and it requires careful planning.
When I recently spoke with the DVC (Admin) to seek updates, he made it clear that the management has been deliberating thoroughly and approaching the process with caution. They are working to ensure sustainability structures are properly established.

It would not be wise to simply put the vehicles on the road without solid administrative, operational, and financial frameworks to guarantee long-term effectiveness. Projects like this involve extensive administrative groundwork which includes but not limited to pricing models, maintenance systems, staffing structures, fueling logistics, regulatory compliance, and sustainability planning.

The commissioning was not done for show off, and the vehicles are not being deliberately withheld. The goal is to get it right, not just to start quickly, but to ensure the system works efficiently and sustainably in the long run. Shey you get?
