Fellow Ugandans, Kenyans and all Africans.
It is with alot of sadness that I, today, the 15th of October, 2025, received the news of the death of Rt. Hon. Raila Amolo Odinga, former Prime Minister of Kenya. Rt. Hon Odinga has not been just a career politician. He has been a freedom fighter, in the tradition of his late father, Jaramogi Odinga, the 1st Vice-President of Kenya.
Ideologically speaking, they have been with the patriotic and Pan-Africanist orientation. I have shared ideas with both of them. Their sentiments have been for the unity of Kenya, East Africa and Africa, including always supporting the struggles for the realization of our dream for the East African Federation.
It is, therefore, unfortunate that he has left at this moment. It is important for the young People to fill the void left by such historical fighters for Africa’s future.
I extend condolences to H.E Ruto, the People of Kenya and for Raila’s family. May his soul rest in eternal peace.
Signed:
Yoweri K. Museveni
President and Chairman of the NRM.
Shri Rajendra V. Arlekar @KeralaGovernor laid a wreath on behalf of PM @narendramodi on the mortal remains of former Kenyan Prime Minister Rt. Hon. Raila Amolo Odinga, in the presence of his daughter Ms. Winnie Irmgard Odinga, the High Commissioner of Kenya in India, and senior officials from the Government of India and the State Government of Kerala.
The mortal remains were flown from Kochi to Mumbai by a special Indian Air Force aircraft and were received by a high-level delegation from Kenya deputed by President @WilliamsRuto and headed by Prime Cabinet Secretary and Cabinet Secretary of Foreign and Diaspora Affairs @MusaliaMudavadi.
The Government and people of India stand in solidarity with the family of the late leader, and with the Government and people of Kenya in this moment of grief.
Before democracy, art that hinted at political satire was a ticket to exile.
Thank you, Raila Amollo Odinga — you walked so that we could run.
Go well, Baba. Your courage paved the way for our freedom.
Raila Odinga was more than a politician, he was a symbol of courage, resilience, and unwavering belief in democracy. He reshaped the political landscape of Kenya, challenging systems and inspiring generations to dream of a freer, fairer nation. His legacy lives on in the courage of our youth, who continue to speak truth to power, just as he did. Raila taught us that true leadership is not about titles, but about sacrifice, vision, and the relentless pursuit of justice for all
NIND GI KWE 🕊️
Hon. Raila Amolo Odinga was, without doubt, the most consequential politician in Kenya over the last three decades. His shadow loomed large over every political transition, every national conversation, and every democratic milestone.
He will be missed at many levels , as a political disruptor, a relentless reformist, a builder of movements, and a symbol of stubborn hope. On the political landscape, he departs leaving few enemies, some loyal allies, and many orphans whose identities were anchored in his cause.
To Mama Ida and the children, poleni sana. Kenya mourns with you. Today, a political giant rests. His voice may fall silent, but his imprint is etched permanently into the architecture of our nation’s democracy.
You might not agree with his politics but the rights and freedoms we enjoy today are courtesy of Baba Raila Odinga. He wears all the battle scars and paid it in blood. For that we are eternally grateful Baba. Go well.
The Rugby fraternity joins the nation in mourning the passing of Former Prime Minister, Raila Odinga.

As the rugby community, we honor his legacy of leadership and nation-building, values that continue to guide our sport both on and off the field.

The Chairperson of the African Union Commission (AUC), H.E. Mahmoud Ali Youssouf, has learned with profound sadness of the passing of H.E. Raila Amolo Odinga, former Prime Minister of the Republic of Kenya, and a distinguished statesman of the African continent.
On behalf of the African Union, its organs and institutions, the Chairperson extends his deepest condolences to the Odinga family, the Government and people of Kenya, and to the entire African family mourning this immense loss.
“H.E. Raila Odinga was a towering figure in Kenya’s political life and a steadfast champion of democracy, good governance, and people-centered development. Kenya bows its head today.
Raila Amolo Odinga was more than a politician. He was a chapter in our nation’s fight for freedom.
Through detention, persecution, and betrayal, he never lost faith in Kenya’s promise. He carried the burden of our democracy on his back and paid the price for believing that this country could be just and fair.
We may not have always agreed with his choices, but we cannot deny his sacrifice. His voice shook systems. His resilience moved mountains.
History will remember him as a man who walked where others feared to stand.
My deepest condolences to Mama Ida, the Odinga family, and the millions of Kenyans whose hope was once kindled by his courage.
Let us carry forward the unfinished dream of a Kenya where truth is not treason and justice is not a privilege.
Rest in eternal peace Baba.
