FEDERAL FIRE SERVICE, NSCDC REAFFIRM COMMITMENT TO NATIONAL SAFETY AND INFRASTRUCTURE PROTECTION

The Controller General, Federal Fire Service (FFS), CGF Olumode Adeyemi Samuel, FCNA, ACTI, has expressed profound appreciation to the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) for its steadfast commitment to protecting critical national infrastructure and supporting the Federal Fire Service through the deployment of security escorts for fire operations.

Speaking during a courtesy visit to the Commandant General of the NSCDC, Prof. Ahmed Abubakar Audi, mni, OFR, at the Corps Headquarters in Abuja today, the CGF commended the NSCDC for its invaluable assistance in providing armed protection for fire trucks and personnel during emergency responses.

He emphasized the importance of strengthening the existing collaboration between both agencies, calling for deeper synergy, cooperation, and capacity-building initiatives to enhance national emergency management. CGF Olumode also requested continued security backup for firemen and operational assets during firefighting interventions, as well as joint security and safety training to improve field coordination.

Acknowledging the NSCDC’s proactive safety culture, the CGF praised the Corps for maintaining internal fire cover within its facilities a practice that, he noted, demonstrates exemplary preparedness and protection of property. He further stated that the Federal Fire Service is eager to tap into the NSCDC’s wealth of experience and leadership discipline to advance shared institutional goals.

In his response, Dr. Ahmed Abubakar Audi warmly welcomed the CGF and his team, congratulating him on his appointment. He described the position as a divine trust, emphasizing that "leadership is transient, and power is a loan." He encouraged the CGF to strike a balance between "need and greed," prioritize the welfare of his personnel, and lead with emotional intelligence and humility.

Dr. Audi also commended the Federal Fire Service for promoting gender inclusion among its personnel, describing it as a progressive step toward inclusivity in public service. He assured the CGF of the Corps’ continued collaboration and armed security support for fire operations nationwide.

The Commandant General reaffirmed the NSCDC’s commitment to strengthening cooperation with the Federal Fire Service under the "3C Principle" Coordination, Cooperation, and Collaboration as a framework for achieving greater national safety and operational efficiency.

In continuation of his official tour of Federal Fire Service stations within the Federal Capital Territory, which commenced on Thursday, 2nd October, 2025, the Controller General, Olumode Samuel Adeyemi, FCNA, ACTI, today visited the Nyanya and Apo Fire Stations, accompanied by senior management officers of the Service.

The visit was also attended by staff of various MDAs who participated in the interactive session to discuss operational issues.

The visit featured an inspection of facilities and an engaging interactive session where the Controller General listened attentively to the concerns and challenges raised by officers and men of the stations.

In response, the CGF assured them of his administration’s unwavering commitment to improving welfare, addressing operational gaps, and providing the necessary support for optimal service delivery. He further commended the personnel for their dedication and encouraged them to remain steadfast, disciplined, and professional in the discharge of their duties.

SIX INJURED AT UTAKO INFERNO AS FIREFIGHTERS CONTAIN BLAZE

The Federal Fire Service (FFS) promptly responded to a fire outbreak today at a two-storey commercial building in Utako, FCT–Abuja, following an emergency report by a concerned resident.

Upon arrival, firefighters met the building already engulfed in flames and immediately commenced firefighting operations to bring the situation under control.

Six male casualties, aged between 25 and 57, sustained varying degrees of burns and injuries and were later evacuated to hospitals for medical attention.

A baby was reportedly thrown from a balcony and narrowly caught by bystanders below. The Service strongly cautions the public against such dangerous acts during emergencies, as they could lead to tragic outcomes.

Preliminary assessment estimates property loss at about ₦45 million, while prompt intervention by the FFS saved property valued at approximately ₦705 million.

The cause of the fire is under investigation to unravel the remote and actual cause of the incident.

The Federal Fire Service urges members of the public to remain calm, report fire outbreaks immediately, and adhere to fire safety precautions at all times.

FEDERAL FIRE SERVICE TRAINS CUSTOMS OFFICERS ON FIRE SAFETY AND PREVENTION

The Inspectorate, Investigation and Enforcement (IIE) Department of the Federal Fire Service has commenced a two-day intensive training program for officials of the Nigeria Customs Service at its headquarters in Abuja. The exercise, which began today, Thursday, October 9, 2025, is designed to equip customs personnel with essential knowledge and practical skills in fire safety, prevention, and management.

The training featured technical sessions on identifying and mitigating fire risks, the proper use of fire extinguishers, and emergency evacuation procedures.

Representatives of the IIE Department, led by Assistant Controller General B.T. Mohamed, who heads the department, provided detailed demonstrations on the types and applications of fire extinguishers and shared insights into effective workplace fire safety practices.

The event was attended by senior officers, including Deputy Comptroller General of Customs, D. Nnadi, alongside other high-ranking customs officials.

The Federal Fire Service delegation, comprising ACG B.T. Mohamed, SF Israel, SF Toyosi, and other IIE department personnel, emphasized the Service’s commitment to advancing safety standards and inter-agency collaboration.

The interactive sessions offered participants the opportunity to engage directly with fire safety experts and exchange ideas on strengthening institutional fire prevention frameworks. The practical component of the training, scheduled for Friday, October 10, 2025, is expected to enable customs officers to apply the knowledge gained in simulated real-life fire scenarios.

This initiative shows the Federal Fire Service’s dedication to promoting fire safety and prevention across government institutions, ensuring that personnel, facilities, and assets are better protected from fire hazards.

In a laudable show of corporate social responsibility (CSR) and partnership with government agencies, ENSERV and BGP/CNPC OML-124 JV-1069 Owerri have donated essential items to the Federal Fire Service, Zone E, Imo State Command.

The donation comprised six bed mattresses and a cash gift of One Hundred and Fifty Thousand Naira (₦150,000), aimed at improving personnel welfare and enhancing operational comfort.
