A Statement from the President, Arwa Elrayess
“I am proud to have hosted @cenkuygur and @hasanthehun virtually at the Oxford Union this evening; as promised, the event went ahead despite the disappointing decision of the UK Home Secretary
I am very much looking forward to our debate with @TRobinsonNewEra later this term, where our Members will have the opportunity - as I have repeatedly promised and was reaffirmed by the Members themselves on Thursday - to challenge those Speakers in that debate.
I am delighted to see that our members continue to uphold the central principle of free speech that this Society was built upon…
and with that, I will remain, Arwa Elrayess, Your President.”
I’ll be quite honest, very much get the vibe that this Prosper UK grouping will eventually result in some form of soft defections to the Lib Dem’s, especially if the current Tory reaction to it is anything to go of. Honestly, I’d welcome this greatly
For courses which a)have such requirements as to be self selecting as b)they have such a small amount of people who take the requisite qualifications then c)there is a naturally higher admission rate - this is bad but not for the reason you think (accessibility not overadmission)
The chance of getting into Cambridge is now 70% for some arts degrees, and 50% at Oxford, according to the universities’ own admissions figures https://t.co/IdXn0CFlvB
Father Damian Howard was asked to step down from the Catholic chaplaincy after a safeguarding complaint from a postgraduate student was upheld https://t.co/0TEkDfL87w
@yearningGroyper @Adrian_Hilton@OxfordUnion Message me from a non anonymous account if you want me to take you seriously, looking at your page the point of life is to “cure judaism” and “have sex with blonde teenagers”.
@Adrian_Hilton@OxfordUnion Quorum was by my understanding exceeded and the Secretary who wrote them has been *suspended from membership for one year* for his minuting by the Same SDC who upheld the poll result
@Adrian_Hilton@OxfordUnion Adrian, these minutes were voted in the house and were rejected *nem con* for being objectively incorrect and potentially defamatory. It is not a reflection of that meeting in any way. I was there. You’ve been very reasonable when I’ve replied before, I hope you listen this time
Interesting facts from the counts @OxfordUnion
In Mr Abaronye’s vote, in person votes would have led to him being kept with a simple majority in favour
In Moosa Harraj’s vote, in person votes would be simple majority in favour of removal
Horrifying that Moosa is blatantly planning on ultra vires action to ban members such as myself raising genuine concerns, I’m happy to answer to all my actions through either disciplinary processes or the courts - I’ve been honest and frank on here and throughout the process
@gamecounsel The bulk of the irregularities were raised the day before the No Confidence Poll in GA when we begun the validation process, I advised Mr Lock on the day, during the validation process and finally submissions were formally made on the Sunday evening for an invocation of SO D3(f)
Interesting response. We have some brilliant electoral officials who as noted shared my concerns during both the suspension discussion and specific membership card discussions. I’m curious about this “other election”, is it the one I referenced perhaps?

Just to address a few comments I’m seeing:
- That I am a “DEI plant”, I achieved A*A*AA at A-Level, exceeding the requirements for my course.
- That I am “over-privileged” or a “chequebook student”, I was born and raised in a council house in the north east to a single parent
@gamecounsel My understanding is these are soon to follow, for the last year Secretarys have been rather lazy regarding their minuting obligations, the current secretary has assured me and others he is rectifying this
@gamecounsel 35(g)-(h) were applied by the poll regulations, specifically reg 4a. M sadly does not apply as the ERO has the unilateral power under 47(g)(iii)(1) to “decide questions of procedure of the poll or count” also applied by Reg 2c
