The arrival of Prof Mapfumo at the UZ as VC has seen the college exercising ethnic profiling. I have received numerous reports of young persons from Matebeleland who have been denied enrolment in their preferred programmes under a shoddy psychometric exam basis. We'll fight you!

📜 History Corner
I just stumbled upon a fascinating letter written by Herbert J. Taylor back in July 1896, during the uMvukela waMaNdebele (Ndebele Uprising). Incredible to read a firsthand account from that era
Dear @matinyarare,
This is FALSE! Please STOP ✋
For the avoidance of doubt, I have copied in the Russian Embassy in Zimbabwe @RuEmbZimbabwe and the one in South Africa @EmbassyofRussia since you live in both countries. You can cross check my input with them!
In 1973, when this picture was supposedly taken at Bagamoyo in Tanzania which was Frelimo’s headquarters (or in Mozambique as you claim), President Vladimir Putin of present day Russia was still in university in the Soviet Union, where he was studying law at Leningrad State University (now Saint Petersburg State University).
I mention Tanzania because President Yoweri Muwani’s son, General Muhoozi Kainerugaba, who is the Commander of Defence Forces in Uganda posted the picture in 2021 saying he had heard that it was taken in Tanzania in 1973.
So, Putin enrolled at university in 1970 and graduated in 1975. Putin was around 20 years old in 1973.
Vladimir Putin’s first job after graduating in 1975 was as an officer in the KGB, the Soviet Union’s security and intelligence agency, not the army.
He did not engage in high-profile espionage, he was a junior officer assigned to monitoring foreigners and consular officials.
When had he become a military instructor in 1973 when he was studying law at that time?
After joining the KGB straight after finishing law school at Leningrad State University where he had been recruited by the KGB, Putin was initially assigned to work in Leningrad up to 1985 when he was moved to Dresden, East Germany, as a KGB intelligence officer.
ZANUPF only moved to Mozambique after FRELIMO took over from the Portuguese in 1975, the same year Putin graduated from university, the same year when Mnangagwa was released from the Rhodesian jail.
So which ZANLA post battle analysis would have involved Machel, Mnangagwa and Putin in 1973 when he was in jail?
Was it in Tanzania, where this picture was supposedly taken according to earlier reports and General Muhoozi Kainerugaba, or in Mozambique, as you claim, when Mnangagwa was still in jail and only moved to Mozambique from Zanbia in 1977 where he became Robert Mugabe’s personal assistant?
Emmerson Mnangagwa was released from prison by Ian Smith in 1975, the same year Putin graduated from university, and Mnangagwa claims to have graduated from the University of Zambia in 1976. So was this picture taken between 1977 and 1979?
Putin was never in the military as a soldier or instructor. He was a KGB officer with a background in law and intelligence, not battlefield tactics.
There is no record of Putin engaging with African liberation movements during that time or any other time. Besides, Frelimo and ZANLA were mainly trained by the Chinese.
ZIPRA and ANC were trained by the Soviets.
I have read, and I have a copy of Putin’s biography. “First Person: An Astonishingly Frank Self-Portrait by Russia’s President,” there is zero mention of him ever working in Africa at any point of his career in the 1970s or post Zimbabwe’s independence. I am happy to lend you the book from my study.
Now here is the closest to the truth you can get. A researcher called Naledi Mashishi
spoke to to Dr Luca Bussotti, an associate researcher at the Centro de Estudos Internacionais – Instituto Universitário de Lisboa, an expert in Lusophone African politics and history.
“He was able to offer some additional clues to the photo’s origins,” she said.
“Bussotti said his contacts had told him the photo was taken in Mozambique in 1986, just days before Machel and 24 others died in a plane crash on 19 October,”she added.
“The supposed person identified as Putin is a Soviet agent of [the] KGB,” Dr Bussotti told her.
“His presence is due to the fact that the USSR had doubts on the loyalty of Samora, because of his travel [to] the States and his meeting with Reagan,” Bussotti added.

Dear Villager, please pass the message to those dudulas that the King of the Ndebele Kingdom leading amabutho here is a documented South African citizen, but his people are across the Limpopo, maybe they will learn a thing or two about how colonialism did a number on us 😉
No DNA, just Ndebele people having fun 😁 King Mzilikazi should be proud witnessing his descendants coming together in all their diversity to enjoy their identity 👏🏾 #KingMzilikaziDay was a whole vibe 👌 let's attend these events in numbers & learn a thing or two, Bayethe!
Amabutho - warriors. Every man over the age of 16 in the Matabele nation of King Mzilikazi ,belonged to a military regiment. Warriors retired at 40 but still served as an auxilliary force. It was indeed a nation of warriors celebrated today in Bulawayo at the King Mzilikazi day
