Living the dream-Green Hydrogen

The HyIron-Oshivela Green Hydrogen project in Erongo is taking shape. This initiative will be the world’s first to use green hydrogen in processing iron oxide sourced locally (Khomas, Kunene, and South Africa), speaking to Namibia’s commitment to value addition rather than just extraction and export.

This week, I’m on the ground in Erongo, capturing insights from Namibians working on the project, how they’ve honed new skills, the intellectual property they’ve helped develop, and their overall experience in bringing this project to life.

HyIron-Oshivela secured its first 200,000 tons of Direct Reduced Iron Ore. In under six months, they have installed over 42,000 solar panels across 25 hectares, generating 25MW of power. During Phase I, more than 60 SMEs were engaged, and over 400 Namibians were employed during construction.

The assembling and fitting seen in the visuals, done entirely by Namibian fitters, turners, electricians, and technicians, showcases local expertise and innovation. The skills and intellectual property developed through this project are drawing global attention.

South Africans, including Anele Mdoda, are now backing Miss Zimbabwe, Sakhile Dube, to win Miss Universe.

With South African contestant Mia Le Roux's withdrawal due to health concerns, Sakhile Dube has emerged as a favorite in Africa to take the crown.

Another top contender is Miss Universe Nigeria, Chidimma Adetshina, whose controversial journey towards the title is well documented in the media.
