@okcovereasy I bet if you called up Greg Gawey, owner at Jamil’s, he’d regale you with tales of OKC’s nod-and-wink liquor by the drink. Same with David Egan at Cattlemen’s. Would make a fun podcast!
@realmartypeercy@FernetBroncho@okcovereasy In practice, few brought their own bottles. Most places had random names on the bottles behind the bar in case they got checked. It kept out big chains for a long time that depended on alcohol sales, but weren’t willing to play the private member game.
@FernetBroncho@downesphoto@okcovereasy "Liquor By the Drink." I just looked it up. September 1984. We were the 49th state to allow liquor by the drink. SQ 563 won with only 51% of the popular vote.
@downesphoto@okcovereasy That was the era where any place that allowed liquor on premise required a membership. You'd buy your own bottles that they'd keep for you.
