Forgiveness does not mean returning to the abuse.

One of the most misunderstood ideas about forgiveness is the belief that if you truly forgive someone, you must give them access to your life again. That is simply not true.

Forgiveness is about releasing bitterness, anger and the desire for revenge. It is something you do for your own peace and healing. Reconciliation, however, is different. Reconciliation requires trust, accountability, change and safety.

You can forgive someone and still choose not to answer their calls.

You can forgive someone and still refuse to enter another toxic relationship with them.

You can forgive someone and still maintain healthy boundaries.

A person who repeatedly disrespects, manipulates or abuses you is not entitled to unlimited access simply because you have forgiven them.

Forgiveness heals the heart, but wisdom protects it.

Stop allowing people to guilt you into returning to environments that broke you. Choosing peace over chaos is not hatred. Choosing boundaries over abuse is not bitterness. Choosing safety over repeated harm is not unforgiveness.

Sometimes the strongest form of forgiveness is wishing someone well from a distance and never giving them another opportunity to hurt you.

Forgive if you can. Heal at your own pace. But never confuse forgiveness with permission to be abused again.
