I practice making good faith arguments from other people’s p.o.v., including on topics like abortion, religion, and politics.
That doesn’t make me better than anyone, but I feel lonely in it sometimes, and I think it’s a worthy goal. ✌️
@JerusalemDemsas@mattyglesias The emphasis on hypocrisy rather than on the merits of a particular argument has been terrible for our ability to solve problems in this country.
@pegobry_en It’s not self-evidently absurd. Extrapolating how many future deaths are likely from data reflecting current deaths and past deaths is a legitimate way of figuring mass casualties. Spreadsheets are useful when you’re dealing with this sort of information.
@RandyZabel@okiepatriot_76 Randy, no, it wasn’t meant to be temporary. It was created on the premise that Americans deserve a living wage for full time work.
@TheRealBasik@TurnerGardens@okiepatriot_76 I think people who put in 40 hours every week, month after month, should earn enough to afford the basics. It’s a premise the MW was based on and I agree with that philosophically.
Correct. Many millions of Americans ceased caring about corruption, lawlessness, unconstitutional power grabs, and habitual lying years ago. Our standards have fallen so low as a nation that Vance can brag about getting away with it and still have a political future.
@RandyZabel@okiepatriot_76 Well, I don’t know about a distortion of reality.
It is a historical fact that the minimum wage was created so that full-time working people could afford the basics. That’s the point of it. I’m just wondering if you disagree with the premise.
@RandyZabel@okiepatriot_76 Do you agree, philosophically, that it’s acceptable in the US for people to work 40 hours a week, month after month, and not being able to afford the absolute basics? I just don’t think that’s right, and it was the whole reasoning behind the MW in the first place.
@SchmittNYC@RoKhanna@elonmusk Thank you for that research. Please include in every show examples of how lives can be saved with a relatively small amount of money from those of us who have more than enough.
