Questions no one is asking about the new COREN SWEP, SIWES, and Externship before NYSC for all engineering students.

❓ Isn’t it too early to impose such a policy? I mean, awareness should be created and adequate preparation put in place before implementation.
❓ What effect would this have on the institution’s curriculum and academic calendar.
❓ No school goes on holiday for three months. How will students undergo SIWES I and II for three months each after completing the second semester in 300L and 400L.
❓ What is the roadmap for those whose courses of study are four years. Are they to only do SIWES I.
❓ What mitigation measures are being considered for the externship period.
❓ Who will place students in relevant industries to ensure the full intentions of the policy are achieved.
❓ Will students be paid for the externship, just as those in the medical profession are.
❓ What happens to students who cannot secure placement in an industry.
❓ How will the policy affect students in institutions with already-delayed academic calendars.
❓ Will the externship count towards the work experience required for COREN registration.
❓ What happens if there aren’t enough industry placements for the number of engineering students graduating each year.
❓ Who will monitor and assess the quality of the externship experience across different industries.
