Never Again Cannot Be Selective

I recently visited Poland and used the opportunity, while in the Kazimierz district of Kraków, to pay homage to the 65,000 Polish citizens of Jewish nationality from Kraków and its surroundings who were murdered by the Nazis during World War II. Unfortunately, because of my schedule, I could not visit Auschwitz, where more than one million Jews were murdered by the Nazi regime.

Nobody has told them to move on and forget the past. For them, “never again” still means never again. Even the President of Finland, Alexander Stubb, who would likely tell H.E. Simon Ekpa to forget the Biafran genocide, move on, and enjoy the Finnish citizenship they are so desperately trying to take from him, still pays homage to those who lost their lives to the Nazis.

We the people of Biafra can relate to this history because we too were victims of genocide by the Nigerian regime: a regime that invaded our land, illegally annexed it, and is worse than the Nazis. That regime remains in power today and continues a systematic genocide against Biafrans.

When I paid homage to the martyrs in Poland, I did not feel unsafe. When Biafrans remember our martyrs on Biafran territory, the Nigerian regime kills us. After such killings, people like Alexander Stubb smile for photographs with members of that same regime.

Some may call this racism. I call it madness. If Alexander Stubb condemns the Nazis, yet supports those worse than the Nazis; those responsible for the deaths of millions of innocent Biafran children, women, and men, then he, and anyone like him, is a madman.
