Thank you Brotherly @timidakolo, you made my day and probably my week now, after that very genuine question from yesterday.
I’ll tell you why.
One week ago, @drugfreeproject , DFHSAPSI’s flagship celebrated its one year anniversary, and that Sunday morning, shortly before our anniversary volunteer virtual meeting in the evening, I met Timi at the airport.
We were both waiting for our flights (luckily we were on the same flight) and whilst we waited, we got into a conversation about the substance abuse crisis in Nigeria and globally. (The day before was the International Day Against Drug Abuse and Illicit Trafficking, and we had a state house event organised by NDLEA, UNODC, MTN, EU.)
Timi shocked me, he doesn’t drink and hasn’t used any substances, his method was to flee, and surround himself with people who respect his choices. I was surprised. He also didn’t know how much damage drugs were doing, but was an active supporter of recovery and rehabilitation having encouraged and supported people in recovery.
Instantly he connected me with someone in Jos who runs a rehabilitation service and who he thinks we could work together. I was happy. I gave him our drug free project IEC and one of our merch, the stress ball, he was like, I love stress balls. I’m happy that meant something. A souvenir that can pass the message and relieve stress.
If this encounter and all the things connected to it made my day, then how did it make my week, you might ask ?
Yesterday I was privileged to be one of the speakers at Obafemi Awolowo University, Drug Free Club’s week grand finale @drugfreecluboau (I’ll probably share photos and videos from this soon) and a young lady asked a question,
How do we campaign against substance abuse when media and role models for young people we speak to at outreaches use drugs?
I jumped at an answer,
Check my answer and continuation of story in comment section.
Show them those who don’t. Apart from the so many other solutions I mentioned, one major is to show them @timidakolo , show them @iam_smalldoctor drug free advocate (this one shocked many of them as it initially shocked me before
@KingPexxie said to me, Man does not use any substance and is committed to the drug free life and helping others🫡, show them @DAVIDJONESDAVID , who has been a consistent lone voice, using his skill to advocate over the decade.
So , Dear Timi, and every super star who chooses not to use substances especially those who choose to be drug free advocates, you make our job easier. You make young people who want to say No, believe that it is possible.
I know there was once a Celebrity Drug Free Club, I believe we can restore it. and young people will see once again that there are stars ⭐️ who choose life, who say no to drugs and who excel in their field of endeavor.
Thank you 🙏

Yes to Life and No to Drugs are not just slogans. They are life changing decisions. They shape our future, our health, and even our survival.
Every time you say Yes to drugs, you move closer to risk. Every time you say No, you choose life, health, hope and love.
