PLAC calls for the immediate withdrawal and dismissal of the charges by the @PoliceNG against democracy activist, @sowore. We are particularly disturbed that the Cybercrimes Act enacted to address legitimate concerns such as online fraud, identity theft, and other cyber offenses is being weaponised and misused to target democracy activists, journalists, and civil society actors. This portends a dangerous trend that threatens legitimate dissent, the rule of law and the space for civic engagement in Nigeria.
