The Gift and the Burden of Leadership.

As someone who has spent a lifetime studying politics, leadership, development, and the rise and fall of nations, I have come to appreciate that transformational leaders are rarely understood in the moment. They are often resisted before they are respected and doubted before they are celebrated.

That is why I remain convinced that we are following a man who is truly a gift to Nigeria.

What many see today as difficult reforms are, in fact, the laying of foundations for a productive nation capable of carrying not only its own weight but inspiring an entire continent.

Development has patterns. The world has seen it before.

Japan led the “Flying Geese” model that transformed Asia from a region of limited industrial capacity into a global production powerhouse. One economy took the lead, others followed, and prosperity spread across borders. China later accelerated that process and today stands as proof of what deliberate national planning can achieve.

Africa awaits its own moment.

I believe Nigeria is positioned to become that lead nation, and President @officialABAT understands this responsibility. The reforms are not merely about balancing accounts or correcting distortions; they are about preparing Nigeria to become the engine room of African growth, production, innovation, and opportunity.

When Nigeria succeeds, Africa benefits.

When Nigeria expands its productive capacity, attracts investment, builds infrastructure, strengthens institutions, and unlocks the creativity of its people, neighbouring nations will inevitably align themselves to the opportunities created by our progress.

That is why this moment matters.

Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu is not asking Nigerians to manage decline; he is challenging us to build greatness. The journey is demanding, but the destination is worth the sacrifice.

If Nigeria succeeds on this path, history will accord him immense respect—not because he sought applause, but because he had the courage to do what was necessary when it mattered most.

The prosperity we seek is not a fantasy. It is on the horizon.

Our duty is to stay the course.

The debate over fuel subsidy has once again exposed the need for Nigerians to carefully examine what every presidential candidate actually stands for, rather than relying on campaign rhetoric or political narratives.

Peter Obi has consistently said he supports removing the petrol subsidy. In 2023, he described the subsidy regime as unsustainable and said he would remove it if elected. He repeated that position in 2025 and again in August 2026, saying that mismanagement of the proceeds from subsidy removal should not be a reason to bring the subsidy back.

However, recent comments from his running mate, Rabiu Kwankwaso, have introduced another dimension to the debate, with Kwankwaso saying that a Peter Obi-led government would bring the subsidy back. Today, Peter Obi was reported to have said that, if elected, he would also return the subsidy.

That contradiction deserves a clear explanation from the opposition camp. The important question is not simply whether petrol should be cheaper. Nigerians deserve to know how any proposed subsidy would be financed, how it would be targeted, how corruption and leakage would be prevented, and what impact it would have on government revenue and other essential sectors.

President Tinubu’s administration made the hard decision to end the petrol subsidy, a policy that all the major presidential candidates in the 2023 election, including Peter Obi, had publicly supported in principle.

As we approach another election, Nigerians should therefore demand more than slogans. Every candidate should clearly explain what they intend to retain, reverse or change, and provide credible details on how their policies will be funded.

The future of Nigeria should not be reduced to the ambition of removing one political leader from office. What matters is the quality, consistency and practicality of the alternative being presented to Nigerians.

With all that said, Nigeria is better off with President Bola Tinubu’s presidency until 2031.
