For years I waited for someone to pick me.
I thought success worked like school. Do the work, wait quietly, and eventually the right authority notices you and hands you the next level.
That was my mistake, and it cost me time I cannot get back.
The real world does not run on permission. Nobody is coming to tap you on the shoulder and announce that it is finally your turn.
The people who move are the people who pick themselves. They start the project unasked. They claim the title before anyone grants it. They act as though it is already their turn, and the world eventually agrees.
Stop waiting to be chosen.
Choose yourself, and get to work as if the permission already came.
The only person whose yes you truly need is your own.
One of my most expensive habits early on was staying quiet.
I would sit in rooms full of opportunity and say nothing. Not because I had nothing to offer, but because I was afraid of looking foolish.
I told myself I was being humble. I was only being timid.
And timidity carries a price nobody warns you about.
Opportunities do not announce that they passed you by. They go to the person who spoke, who asked, who raised a hand while you rehearsed the perfect sentence in your head.
Closed mouths do not get fed, and quiet brilliance often goes unseen.
Do not gree for timidity.
Ask the question. Make the introduction. Say you are interested before someone bolder does.
The world seldom rewards the most talented person in the room. It rewards the one brave enough to be seen.
Turn churches into 7-days-a week community centres. Subsidize energy costs and operations through grants.
Have childcare facilities, sporting complexes, libraries, free food.
Watch as children make friends and break social media, gaming & substance addiction. They will read and learn. Pick up sports. Build social skills and self-confidence.
Observe as parents regain bandwith and time for intentional and present parenting.
Young people will observe the lives of mentors and learn to love and know Christ.
Collaborations will emerge. Loneliness will reduce as people find multi-generational friendships and families.
This is my vision of the modern church. A living breathing entity in the heart of urban communities.
Firstly, as a man, you cannot put an end to lust but you can tame it to the highest levels.
Understanding what lust is and what causes it is a key first step. Many times, lust shows up when a man is idle, unfocused, or feeling lonely. When lust perceives that a man is in a state of nothingness or close to that, it gladly fills the void.
In taming it, a man has to learn to guard what he consumes. He has to be intentional about what he repeatedly watches, scrolls past or entertains. As the saying goes, the mind follows the eyes, and the eyes follow the habit.
But restraint is just a starting point. A man has to commit himself to work that keeps him busy, active and focused. Lust thrives in emptiness so a life with structure renders lust lifeless.
For me, keeping busy with deep and meaningful work helps all the time.
Don’t even ask for that permission. Find your way back home. You are helpless and vulnerable when you sleep. Don’t be helpless and vulnerable outside your own home.
Guys, it’s okay for a man to cry…but never in front of your woman.
Do it privately, gather yourself quickly, and don’t wallow in self-pity. Life is unfair and nobody is coming to save you. Wipe your tears, set your face like a flint and go again!
I am Ezemmuo. I know things.
The downside to this is that it also comes with a responsibility many people don’t talk about but expect from you.
When someone recommends you, they’re putting their name, their credibility, and sometimes their entire reputation on the line. It’s not “just a job."
So if you get referred, respect it. Deliver well. Communicate properly. Keep your word. Don’t make the person who believed in you look foolish.
A single bad experience can affect how the recommender sees every other person who comes after you. It can close doors for people who never even did anything wrong.
So please, if someone gives you a chance through their name, honor it with good performance. It’s the least you owe them.
What do men want?
When I was in my 20s, I was a different type of young man. Others were drinking beer and chasing girls, but I was building a business and not drinking, but still chasing girls.
As I grew older and became more stable in my career, I wanted a family. However, I went through many failed relationships before finally realizing that it wasn't about them, but about me. I looked inward and changed myself to a more patient, more generous, and less impulsive person.
I also found religion again, and it made all the difference. I got the best life partner I could have ever imagined. A blessing. It was given to me by the grace of God. I didn't create it. I learned a great deal from that process about what is truly important in life and how to achieve it.
We believe too much that everything we do is why we get what we want and that we deserve it. The best things you have today are likely things you didn't deserve but got anyway. We should not become conceited or arrogant as it could have been much worse.
Grace isn't about NOT hustling and waiting for miracles, but knowing that even while hustling, you could be a tool for blessing others while you are being blessed. I discovered that doing good to others in relationships and avoiding a transactional approach compounds blessings.
I was having a conversation with my cousin in his mid-30s this morning about career and settling down to build a family and realized that it wasn't going to be about anything he did right but about what God determined was right.
A good friend who had ticked all the right boxes in her life, got a first class degree and a PhD before 24, called me three days to her wedding and wanted me to tell her something to make her know if she was right about going forward. I sent her Psalm 127 v 1.
“Unless the LORD builds the house, the builders labor in vain. Unless the LORD watches over the city, the guards stand watch in vain”
This post wasn't meant to be all religious and “preachy” but it is International Men’s Day and I believe that what makes you a man is Grace and not bravado or hype. Real men pray and do good things. They are also blessed abundantly when they are blessings to others. Help a fellow human today.
A friend of mine was sensing that they were going to lay him off about a year ago. He is over 50 and has been at the same organization for over a decade. They finally gave him the letter, and he is devastated. Kids in school, mortgage to pay. No safety net. I hate corporations.
I don’t think people realize how easy it is to grow old and have the world change on you, leaving you without safety nets while you seem to have been doing everything right. My two parents, who were civil servants, and their experiences before retirement, profoundly changed me.
The Dani Alves case is unfortunate, and I know someone who faced a similar issue in England. He lost everything, including his marriage, before he was finally acquitted.
His wife's position was that he should never have been in a position to be a suspect at all, and I agreed. There are things you should avoid when you have a lot to lose.
Whenever I travel, I am rarely away from my hotel room and avoid night parties unless absolutely necessary. I know it is tough for younger people, but at a certain stage in your career, you avoid any drama.
This is not to absolve the other party of any blame, but there is a reason why the Lord's Prayer includes two phrases: 'Lead us not into temptation' and 'deliver us from evil.' Evil is always searching; avoid it by avoiding anything even remotely associated with temptation.
My girls Kaego (9) and Nnenna (8) don’t read enough. So every weekend this summer break we’re going book shopping. At the minimum they will read at least 1-2hrs every morning. Close to zero game / screen time is the plan. So far so good 🥰
I promised some people in my DMs that I’d share the study tips that helped me achieve a perfect CGPA. Let me clarify: these tips are tailored to my journey. The key is understanding yourself and adapting what works for you. Take what resonates with you #unilag#studytips
- Worked twice as hard as anyone
- made feedback my breakfast
- asked more questions (nothing was too stupid)
- put my hands up when I didn’t understand or make a mistake
- figured everyone was just winging it and the color of their skin didn’t make them smarter
- anchored on wins and used them as steps to achieve more

Since I restricted ALL electronics for Obi (10) he has turned into a beast of a reader. Churning through a book a week and he even bugged me to complete the Percy Jackson franchise. This is definitely a big win for the clan. A few years back we had to force him to read. 🙏🏾
