Solomon Sivils was arrested and given a sentence of 18 months in prison, along with a $10 fine, for bringing alcohol into Native American Territory in 1904. In 1834, legislation was enacted that established penalties for the sale, trade, or introduction of alcohol onto Native American lands. This led to a ban on alcohol within reservations, and Native Americans were prohibited from buying or consuming alcohol even outside of the reservations. This prohibition lasted for more than a century, continuing even after the 21st Amendment ended national prohibition in the United States.
