Marine Corps Boot Camp is famous for its demanding day-and-night training, beginning with intense mental conditioning and progressing to physical and combat skills. Recruits must pass eight required events to graduate. Failure results in being dropped to another training company for another attempt. Continued failure can lead to separation from boot camp.
Water Survival: Recruits must complete a tower jump, 25-meter swim, 25-meter pack swim, four-minute water tread, and gear shed. Those who struggle receive additional instruction as "Iron Ducks" and are given up to four opportunities to qualify. Successful recruits earn the Water Survival Basic (WSB) qualification.
MCMAP: Recruits complete over 28 hours of Marine Corps Martial Arts Program training and must demonstrate proficiency in at least 80% of the required techniques.
Physical Fitness Test (PFT): Recruits are tested on a 3-mile run, maximum pull-ups, and two minutes of crunches. Each event is worth up to 100 points for a maximum score of 300.
