@pol_plesiosaur@JS_StrngstSldr They learned through revelation that among his names would be Salvation/ yeshua, and Messiah / Christ. Just as Isaiah knew the name Immanuel. The Name of Jesus is not just a sound with letters, but a known meaning.
I’m sure it would be sick to your stomach, deeply ashamed, filled with guilt and regret. Hint of despair followed by a 3 year sadness.
All while watching the Restore momentum and brotherhood, missing out on being part of the story. The hope and joy.
A once in a generation fumble.
Imagine being on the other side of the history books in years to come, when hobbiton is restored and everyone is at the pub sharing where they were when it mattered. You stay uncomfortably quiet as they look back joking about your sides weaknesses.
You laugh along and pretend you made the right choices, but the lie to yourself stings twice as your grandchildren ask you the same.
@QuetzalPhoenix There are communities around the country that have architectural guidelines. Santa Fe, NM is one in particular, but I also know of smaller communities in Texas that have it as well. Additionally, if the architects, builders, and funders could have a bit more pride it would help
@CrownedAnarchie high school and college specifically are set up very much like the idle portions of the community living that defined basically all of history, except that it is much, much easier. It is atomic modernity that is exceptional in world history
@reverend_px No, a lot of immigration in the US is supported by lefty churches, and they really do house some of these people. Some are impervious to experience. We just need deportations and controls, whatever lefty churchgoers might think of it all, for the sake of the nation.
In Mesopotamia, men would carve large stones called kudurru to declare boundary lines, and these were often respected even across dynasties and centuries. It is a marker of why they had continuous civilization and other places had barbarism.
Private property rights are one of those pillars that really is holding everything up. We’ve built our entire society around that pillar. All of the justifications for our social order come from it. It’s a civilizational load bearing idea that people really really like whacking with sledge hammers.
A shameful confession: I don't know that I have "a war".
What I do have is a fascination with anywhere that civilization and barbarism come into conflict. Alexander in Central Asia, the endless raids of Mesopotamia, US vs the Indians, etc. I fear that makes me pretentious
Two critiques to this:
1) It happens WAY younger than 40 in my experience
2) You don't choose the war. The war chooses you. Relevant @owenbroadcast comic:
The grand culmination of Qin Shi Huang’s vision- a China so peaceful and prosperous that his most ambitious defensive fortification is used as a thirst trap backdrop for clout hungry Xiaohongshu e-thots
@LeaveUtah Part of what brought me to the church 6 years ago was hearing people say that Mormons are clean, don't swear, don't smoke, etc. And that was the criticism, they mormons are weird! Critics of the church are often its best advertisement
@EiratheIntern@_Justinien_1er_ Then how do most Mormons live apparently godly lives in a seemingly Christ-centered community? What major evil fruit has sprung from their false tree? It seems to me that either their current epistemics are right, or they are merely accidentally pro-social.
@realDrTT The whole LDS point is that being Christian shouldn't require a theology test. It should be an honest life in the path of Christ that even the simplest and least educated person can grasp. The trinity is abtruse theology not truly understood by any but the most learned.
@youngman12210@GroyperIrishist A good man burns out the structures that the invaders are camping in. Show me one Irish family that was burnt out by mistake and I will donate to a restitution fund. There will be misses, and we should help them, but most burnings seem on target so far.
@youngman12210@GroyperIrishist To destroy an enemy is more noble a motive than stealing. A thug desires to steal. A good man desires to protect his nation. The men fighting for Belfast are good men.
@BROKENBRITAIN0 How is there still a migrant hotel at Epping? There were huge protests there. Is the government truly unable to even offer tokens to people if they don't get Belfast-level violent?
