@MikeyCycling@BrummieNoire@marksimsy That's the whole point there are very few stats on pedestrians being hit by a cyclist because cyclists can just ride off knowing they are near enough never going to be caught or traced.
@RWiSblog@SomersetWasBlue@BBCNews If cyclists drive dangerously then they can be traced.
Of course safe cyclists would not be bothered about such a scheme as they would easily pass the theory test and what is £10 a year - a couple of coffees.
@RWiSblog@SomersetWasBlue@BBCNews When a bike is sold it gets registered and number plates supplied as part of the purchase.
You pay to do a theory test online -£10 fee.
After that you pay £10 a year.
Just as a car the registered owner is responsible for telling police who was using it.
@RWiSblog@SomersetWasBlue@BBCNews What is more dangerous to the general public? A 250g drone with built in safety features or a pedal assisted electric bicycle capable of doing 30+mph travelling amongst traffic.
One has to be registered and an online theory test
@tuttonp@lawriedriver@2wheelsnot4@MikeyCycling@BBCBreakfast The issue of cyclists breaking the law was recently debated in the House of Lords and you never know Labour might introduce some sort of registration system, compulsory insurance and online theory test for cyclists especially if it brings in extra revenue.
@tuttonp@lawriedriver@2wheelsnot4@MikeyCycling@BBCBreakfast Most pedestrian and cyclist accidents occur when cyclists and pedestrians share the same space.
As I said only the most serious accidents get logged as they are the ones that require emergency medical treatment.
Many collisions between cyclists and pedestrians go unreported.
@tuttonp@lawriedriver@2wheelsnot4@MikeyCycling@BBCBreakfast Use your eyes and compare car design now to that of the 1990s.
Also many modern cars have anti collision systems & radar which stop a car if it anticipates a collision or alerts the driver of something in its vicinity.
Also more pedestrians walk in urban areas.
So common sense
@tuttonp@lawriedriver@2wheelsnot4@MikeyCycling@BBCBreakfast Safe to say most pedestrian injuries involving cars occur in the 30mph & below band.
Modern cars are designed to limit damage to pedestrians at that speed.
Cyclists and a pedestrian collision is quite "blunt" in comparison to that with a modern car.
@MikeyCycling Circa 41 million vehicles registered in the UK & 700 pedestrians injured.
In 2021 531 pedestrians injured by cyclists in the UK ( https://t.co/wn6FNsjDAm) & around 7 million cyclists on the roads
So it would seem cyclists are more dangerous for pedestrians than motor vehicles
