Even simple 100m sprint has different surfaces, better gear for the runner, etc - all of which count as changes made official.

It was caused by not giving the material time to cure properly and you can see they are tears not sharp cuts.

I've seen footage of the crack and it is a series of very messy tears caused by the material not being prepared correctly.
