Most U.S. states have banned corporal punishment in public schools. Only about 15 states still have laws allowing it. Research has consistently shown that corporal punishment is ineffective and harmful, and has associated it with physical injury, mental-health problems, increased aggression, and negative academic outcomes. Florida is unfortunately one of the states where corporal punishment remains legal, although individual school districts and schools may adopt stricter policies or prohibit it altogether
