Among hugely ↑ numbers of Wilson’s Stormies off Scilly are more tiny examples. Yesterday 1 with white fringes to large underwing-coverts & lower belly (photo O. Beacock) – presumed Falklands-type Oceanites. Our research into this population may make this a significant sighting.
BOC of the juv White-winged Tern at Covenham Res this pm. Flew in from the northeast before joining the 3 Black Terns. Single Grey Phal still + 8 Common Sands, 2 Ruff, 2 Ringed Plover, and singles of Little Gull and Kittiwake.

Some more of today's Western Subalpine Warbler @gibpoint today. Occasionally disappeared into the buckthorn but generally quite cooperative. Informative spread tail clinched too though no doubts about ID! @Lincsbirding
Nice trip out to the Lincs coast today. Started off with a dapper drake Garganey and a Spoonbill at Anderby Marsh followed by the Black Redstart at Gibraltar Point which was otherwise pretty quiet save for 3 Chiffchaffs in the dunes @Lincsbirding@LWTWildNews
Top quality birding @RSPBMiddleton yesterday. Male lesser spotted woodpecker drumming in full view on several occasions and a female drumming in the same area but only seen briefly. Also 4 little ringed plovers were a nice year tick and the dubious red-breasted goose at JW North
Winteringham am EYW gave instructive views. Typical moult of 1w EYW - all med & gtr covs + tertials juv-type. Heavy bill & longer legs more obvious than expected. Hind claw perhaps not as long as some but lacking strong curve of flava. Sonogram from phone recording (see alt text)
Very lucky to be working nearby when this Eastern Yellow Wagtail was found in Winteringham, North Lincs this afternoon. Calling occasionally too. Seems to have gone to roost in the compound adjacent to the sewage works. Top find!
@oxonbirdnews Green-winged Teal still around Ardley ERF. @BirdGuides report is wrong, the bird has relocated to the ponds at the former Ardley Fields Quarry (north of previous sightings) which is strictly private and regularly security patrolled and is not visible from any PRoW.
@bobhazell@STWDraycote@Draycotebirding @WestMidsBirding Where abouts did you have the Ferruginous Bob? Eas down there this afternoon and no sign of it. Thanks
Won't win any prizes but pleased to locate the long-staying adult Iceland Gull coming into the roost @ChasewaterWild1. Picked up as it came in overhead onto the far side of the water just after 16:30. Also 5 Caspians ( 3 ads + 3w + 1w) and 2 Yellow-leggeds (ad + 2w)
Clumber Park 09.01.25
3 surprisingly vocal Hawfinches around the Chapel. Lake was mostly frozen which concentrated the gulls into a dense flock but was still able to locate the regular adult Mediterranean, a brutish 1w Yellow-legged, and a textbook 2w Caspian @NottsBirders
