@HelenBranswell They are testing far too little for comfort. Positivity was almost 50% in the latest update, and around 30% over the past week.
There is also still a large backlog, with 183 tests in North Kivu that have not yet been analyzed.
@TheMemeticist It makes no sense that they ruled out all those suspected cases with fewer than 1,000 tests analyzed.
How can you rule out a case without testing?
@DavidVivia55726@KinderheimRune Nah, Rødt has become pragmatic.
They focus mostly on the economic issues and expanding the welfare state.
SV and MDG blocked the government formation at first, due to nonsense policies around Palestine and Oil extraction.
@Nassreddin2002 They received 7.92% (+4.91%) in the 2022 local elections, so that would represent a massive improvement.
They also received 4.11% in the regional elections, so if they can replicate that success at the national level, they could surpass the electoral threshold.
@BNOFeed They removed some suspected cases after finally getting more testing capacity up and running.
648 tests have now been analyzed, compared to 403 in the previous update.
However, 24 additional confirmed cases analyzed in Kinshasa, according to the report, have not yet been added.
@TheMemeticist The DRC Ministry of Health released two consecutive updates for May 25 and 26.
They also appear to have stopped reporting the contact tracing follow-up rate..
@TheMemeticist Africa CDC’s projections are most likely if the spread continues in the already affected areas.
I think that the models underestimate the risk for sustained spread in bigger urban areas (Goma, Bukavu, Kisangani and Kinshasa).
+ spread into South Sudan and Burundi.
@jmagoola@KrutikaKuppalli@MinofHealthUG Maybe, we’ll probably get more information soon.
They were quick to clarify that the previous cases involved known contacts and a Congolese traveler, which makes me suspect these new cases may be unrelated.
@BNOFeed There seem to be reporting issues in the epicenter city of Mongbwalu, as no cases were added between the previous update and this one.
That likely explains the lower number of newly reported cases today.
@HelenBranswell 48% positivity rate.
1,817 contacts traced, with only a 20% follow-up rate.
The outbreak response is scaling up far too slowly: only 211 tests have been analyzed 9 days after the outbreak was declared.
@HelenBranswell I’m very worried about testing capacity in South Sudan and Burundi.
There’s a real risk that cases may only be detected once a large number of people are already infected.
Have WHO or other partners deployed mobile laboratories or testing resources to those countries?
