My favorite little story from the Battle of Fort McHenry (other than the name HMS Cockchafer) is the part where the British sent 20 boats with 1,000 dudes on them to do an amphibious night assault.

Half the boats got lost in the fog. The other half pressed on but signaled with rockets and flares, which illuminated their position.

Cannon from Fort McHenry and other batteries were appreciative. Bodies were washing up on shore for two weeks.

And our flag was still there.
