6 months in @AuNutrien! Definitely an interesting year to start learning agronomy but I’ve thrown myself all in with paddock checks from Mt Compass ➡️ Coonalpyn, trial work, even drove a spreader for the first time 🚜

These #oats are in for a tough few weeks at @SA_PIRSA - they’re being inoculated with P. avenaria spores which will develop into #Septoria blotch.

Over the next few weeks, each plant is assessed for resistance & could become future parents of new, more resistant oat varieties 🌾

🌱🔍Plant breeding is delicate work! Hand pollinating this #durum involves carefully removing the immature stamens (green) from the female parent without damaging the fluffy stigma.

After #pollination, all that’s left to do is wait & hope for grain fill!
