📣 ROY KEANE ON STEVEN GERRARD: “What gets my back up is when I hear so called experts say Steven Gerrard was loyal. Never. Give Over. Give me a break. He wanted to join Mourinho at Chelsea, he was even driving down the M1 to sign before a few, alleged, unsavoury things happened to change his mind. When our gaffer was interested, Steven rang a fellow international teammate, mentioning no names, who was at Man United, to see if they felt he would get game time given we had myself, Beckham, Ryan, Scholesy and Nicky. Not a chance. He liked to be a big fish in a small pond at Liverpool. Moving to bigger clubs would have seen him shrivel up, no longer the big fish. Absolutely, Honestly. Trust me, he was keen to leave on several occasions. Loyal, Steven, give me a break.”
Just some quick ramblings before I head out to the pub...
Ten Hag is the first manager we've had since Fergie who I was 100% sure it would work for. The club is a fucking mess so when I say work I mean work in the best possible way that it can do under the circumstances. Last season he had us all believing and winning the Carabao in Feb (say what you want about that competition) felt like the start of something.
We were chasing three trophies, we won one, limped out of Europe and got to the final of the FA Cup. The squad looked fucked by the end of the season and despite playing a game every 3-4 days, they looked like they were fully commited...for the most part.
His transfers last season were a mixed bag, he worked with what he had and on the most part I thought he did well, where he wasn't being let down by board backing at least.
The summer transfer window was pretty wank and the injuries this season have been horrendous. Something we have always referred back to when trying the find a balance for why it's just not working on the pitch.
The club in general has been a shambles, statements coming out of its arse, dressing room leaks, restructure at board level which still isn't finalised and player power trying to take over as per usual.
I'm desperate for it to work for Erik because if it doesn't, where the fuck do we go from here? We're not a top team anymore and it's about time we faced that, the god given right that we should be challenging for titles is bullshit as the club isn't ran with that as it's aim. The owners couldn't give a fuck.
He's been let down by the club, the players attitudes and also the crippling injuries. But he's also let himself down. We look uncoached, his in game management has been awful at times and his post game comments are starting to sound desperate and defeated.
Sack Erik? I would rather we didn't, but 13 losses already this season, out of two cups and 1 win in 7 is fucking awful. It's getting hard to defend him.
A clear out from top to bottom sounds clichéd and ridiculous but it also sounds pretty fucking reasonable at the moment.
The whole situation is really fucking bad and I'm desperate for something...for anything.
I'm not even gonna read this back because I don't have the energy to edit it if it reads like a sack of shit. I'm just going to get my coat on, grab the little one and head on down to the pub for a few pints and try to forget about this shitstorm.
