A pro-Russian candidate in Bulgaria has closed his campaign under a Russian flag and with a photo of Vladimir Putin.
A deeply troubling signal.
Just as Europe is still grappling with the legacy of Viktor Orbán, new fault lines are emerging from within.
This is no longer hypothetical. It is unfolding in real time. #Bulgaria #Hungary #EU
for those wanting to understand the current BBC crisis and the silencing of women's voices in the UK media more broadly, the best place to start is the @JournalismSEEN podcast.
📣🎙️Julie Bindel revisits a forgotten moment in BBC history, the 2007 Hecklers debate, and ask whether such a programme could be made today
Fantastic to discuss with her how, 18 years before the Cass Review, Julie was already warning about the capture of institutions 🎧

This proposal should be blocked by the FCC, if it ever does materialize. Its approval will only lead to further erosion of antitrust laws, freedom of the press, and dangerously shrink media plurality and diversity in America.

📢European Parliament Adopts Resolution on Media Freedom in #Georgia, Demands Release of Journalist Mzia Amaglobeli
💢On June 19, the @Europarl_EN adopted a resolution on #media freedom in Georgia, with a strong focus on the case of journalist @MAmaghlobeli. Amaglobeli, co-founder of independent outlets Batumelebi and @netgazeti, was arrested during pro-European protests in January 2025 and now faces up to seven years in prison.
💢The resolution condemns her arrest as politically motivated and demands her immediate and unconditional release. It criticizes the Georgian authorities for violating procedural safeguards, imposing unjustified pre-trial detention, and subjecting her to inhumane treatment that led to a 38-day hunger strike. The resolution also notes sanctions imposed by Estonia and Lithuania on officials involved in her case.
The European Parliament denounces the broader crackdown on civil society and media in Georgia, citing the adoption of repressive laws such as the FARA. It calls for the repeal of all such legislation, the release of all political prisoners, and stronger #EU support for independent media and civil society in Georgia.
