I was asked yesterday by a parent of an 8 yr old, “What do you think of tee work?”
I said…” Not a big fan because it doesn’t have a lot of transfer.” The young brain needs to track balls as much as develop an elite swing.
In fact, the tee can promote bad habits. However….
@tangotiger If the baseball players were from Canada, Minnesota, N.D. etc. I give it to the baseball guys, southern baseball guys, no chance in hockey.
If you work with hitters, please be careful when indoors.
When you’re outside, you tend to obsess about the ball. Barrels and ball flight! 👏
When you’re inside, you tend to obsess over irrelevant things such as “BALANCE” after the ball was destroyed! 🤦♂️
Let ‘em move freely.
Grade level instruction is one of the worst ideas that standardized education embraces.
Imagine expecting every 10 year old to broad jump the same distance or run the 400 m dash in the same time.
Skill acquisition occurs at different stages.

The most common, popular piece of advice from Mom and Dad when they see their son/daughter struggling is JUST HAVE FUN!
Look, I get the concept. Failure hurts. They want to see the smile back on their child’s face.
You know what’s going to make them smile? Success.
John Smoltz, first inning:
“The team that can strikeout less & put it in play has the best shot to win this game.”
John Smoltz, fifth inning:
“Paul Skenes needs to throw more innings instead of going for strikeouts. They don’t mean anything.”
I love this!
One of the interesting points is that if your bat speed is "too fast", you have less time to make contact (but more time to *wait* to make contact!)
@tangotiger I would rather, or at least like to see how it played out if were just a tie after 11 innings in the regular season. Normal ball but with A Lot of urgency. Agree with you about the rest.
Feedback on a coaching clinic I gave yesterday. We covered IMAGINATION DRILLS and NO TAKES, NO FOUL BALLS. We covered SPLIT GRIP PROGRESSIONS and INDEPENDENT ARM ACTION.
But apparently HOT PRACTICES, COLD GAMES won the day. 👇
@zippitydodah51@Klein25 FYI - Last sentence is incorrect. First baseman is auto crashing and has the play in front of them. A soft bunt to 3rd or slash is the way to go. IMO
