You know, over the last week, I’ve tried so hard not to think about Osoko’s death. I texted a friend after Ronaldo scored his brace against Uzbekistan and told them how happy he would have been. Death couldn’t even let him witness one more Ronaldo goal, one more Siuuu. It took him after the DR Congo game.
One of the last lengthy conversations I had with Osoko was when he went to watch Man United live during the pre-season in America.
It was a big deal for him. You know, that boy from Bello Hall, UI, watching his club live was a dream, a lofty one that sometimes felt like it might never be fulfilled. I told him how happy I was for him and how beautiful it was to see someone live out a dream they had held onto for so long.
Osoko worked so hard. He wanted to be the best at whatever he did and, most importantly, he wanted to do right by his family. Last year, his sister finally joined him in the USA, and I congratulated him. That was a dream come true for him. It was a major milestone in his life.
He’d occasionally ask me about my own relocation plans, and we would banter about them.
Just when things started making sense, when all his hard work was beginning to bear fruit, God took him. He didn’t deserve that. He worked too hard not to be here. He had so much life left to live and so much love left to give.
As you return to the earth and are laid to rest today, I pray the angels guide you home. I pray you rest in the bosom of the Lord, and may God give your family the strength and fortitude to bear this heartbreaking loss. ❤️❤️
