🎙️ Reporter: Danny, can you tell us about your conversation with Sir Alex Ferguson before you accepted Chelsea’s offer?

🗣️ Danny Welbeck: “It’s a moment I’ll never forget. My phone rang, and it came up as ‘No Caller ID’. I normally never answer those calls, but something told me to pick it up. The moment I heard the voice, I knew it was Sir Alex Ferguson.

“He asked how I was doing and then told me Manchester United had decided to continue in a different direction. He said he would have loved to bring me back to Old Trafford, but the club’s project had changed and the timing simply wasn’t right.

“Then he surprised me. He said, ‘Go to Stamford Bridge, go to Cobham and buy yourself a house near the water. Every morning at four o’clock, get up and train for three hours. People may not see your full potential today, but if you keep your head down, work hard and believe in yourself, you can make history at Chelsea.’

“I was honestly shocked. The last meaningful football conversation we had was when my future was away from Manchester United, so hearing those words of encouragement from someone I respect so much meant a lot to me.

“Sir Alex has always understood what it takes to succeed at the highest level. It wasn’t just football advice—it was advice about discipline, mentality and believing in yourself even when others doubt you.

“Joining Chelsea is the beginning of a new chapter in my career. I’m grateful for everything that has brought me to this point, but now my focus is entirely on this club. Every time I step onto the pitch, I want to prove that I still have a lot to offer, help Chelsea win trophies and repay the faith they’ve shown in me. That’s my mission.”
