Many will leave this final talking about Arsenal's defending, but I think the game can also be viewed through PSG's attacking structure and risk management.
Arsenal scored early and from that moment became increasingly comfortable defending deep. This was not a mid-block; it was a genuine low block with almost every outfield player positioned behind the ball for large periods of the game.
PSG dominated possession, territory, and field position, but domination alone does not guarantee chance creation. Against a compact low block, the challenge is not reaching the final third it's creating superiority inside it.
What caught my attention was PSG's rest defence structure. Luis Enrique appeared determined not to expose his team to Arsenal's transition threat. Even when PSG sustained attacks around Arsenal's penalty area, they often maintained a back three with additional security behind the ball. The result was excellent counter attack protection but fewer players committed to attacking the last line.
This is the balance every coach faces in elite football control versus risk.
PSG controlled almost everything, but against a team defending with 10 players behind the ball, control alone is rarely enough. At some point, you may need to commit extra numbers, create overloads, accept larger defensive spaces, and trust your rest defence to deal with the consequences.
The game highlighted an important tactical principle possession is not the same as penetration. You can dominate the ball, dominate territory, and still struggle if your attacking structure does not force the opposition out of their defensive comfort zone.
For me, this final was less about Arsenal's defending and more about the fine margins between attacking aggression and defensive security at the highest level of football.
Congratulations to PSG on becoming UEFA Champions League winners.
PSG were fine.
Lacked cutting edge.
And numbers in the final third.
Had lots of possession but created little.
They were there for the taking, in all honesty.
Arsenal should be v. disappointed to lose to them.
Similar to last season, really. Tiny margins going against them.
