My Stand Against Malicious Prosecution and Negligent Investigation:

Over 4 years have passed since the peaceful Freedom Convoy which saw many truckers and supporters, including Chris Barber and myself, arrested on the streets of Ottawa. What followed was the longest mischief trial in the history of the Commonwealth. Both of us were convicted of mischief for our part in the most peaceful and polite protest of all time, and sentenced to 18 months of house arrest.

Even more outrageous? A single group photo at a JCCF awards dinner in Toronto while surrounded by lawyers, fully allowed under my bail conditions, triggered a Canada-wide arrest warrant for an alleged breach of conditions, which did not occur. There was no investigation. No call to my lawyer. It was issued like I was a violent criminal.

Homicide detectives flew me back to Ottawa in leg shackles, I lost my job, precious time with my family, was denied bail, and spent 30 days in remand. All for a non-violent mischief case.

I'm pleased to announce that I have filed a lawsuit against the Ottawa Police, the Crown prosecutor, and others for malicious prosecution & negligent investigation because this isn’t just about me; it’s about stopping this kind of abuse so no Canadian ever faces it again.

This will be a daunting undertaking and for that reason I have started a GiveSendGo campaign in hopes to help fund the fight, including a $25,000,00 retainer and costs estimated at around $100,000.00.

Joanne De Jong, was found in another bedroom and died of sharp and blunt force trauma to her head and neck.

The De Jong’s last minutes on this earth were brutal, horrifying and they suffered more than any human being ever should.

The next time a Premier from eastern Canada says restrictions on oil sales to the US should be on the table or talks about a united Team Canada approach consider this self inflicted wound:

This is what Eastern Canada said no to.

Energy East would have moved up to 1.1 million barrels of Canadian oil per day from the West to Eastern Canada.

Instead, here’s what we do now:

In 2025, Canada imported 506,000 barrels of foreign crude oil every day. That cost $17.8 billion.

And 75.6% of it came from the United States.

The Eastern Canada numbers are brutal:

Ontario: 87,000 barrels/day imported
99.7% from the U.S.

Quebec: 126,000 barrels/day imported
almost 100% from the U.S.

New Brunswick: 270,000 barrels/day imported
about 54% from the U.S.

At the same time, Canada exported 4.3 million barrels/day in 2025, with about 3.9 million barrels/day going to the U.S.

Think about how insane that is.

We produce massive amounts of oil in Western Canada.
We send most of it south.
Then Eastern Canada turns around and buys oil from the Americans because we never built enough east-west infrastructure.

That is how we shot ourselves in the foot.

Energy East was not a small project. Its proposed capacity was more than double all the crude oil Canada imported in 2025.

No, it would not have replaced every imported barrel. Saint John was also meant to be an export terminal. But it would have given Canada far more control over its own energy, its own supply chain, and its own economy.

Instead, Ontario is almost fully dependent on U.S. imported crude. Quebec too. And Saint John, home to Canada’s largest refinery, still has no crude oil pipeline connection.

So when politicians talk about sovereignty from the United States, remember this:

We had a chance to move more Canadian energy across Canada.

And we said no.

Canada does not have a resource problem.

Canada has a nation-building problem.
