Two men recruited by #Iran found guilty of stabbing TV presenter on #London street
- Nandor Badea (21) and George Stana (25), citizens of #Romania, were found guilty of wounding with intent after stabbing Iran International opposition TV presenter Pouria Zeraati outside his Wimbledon home.
- The case highlights Iran’s use of criminal proxies on #UK soil. The men received significant payments as part of the plot and carried out prior reconnaissance on the target.
- They flew in from Romania and spent weeks surveilling Zeraati who survived the attack but described the assault as terrifying.
- Zeraati had appeared, along with other journalists, on "Wanted: dead or alive" posters that were put up in the Iranian capital Tehran.
- The third attacker, David Andrei (22) could not be extradited as he faces proceedings in Romania.
- This is one of several recent cases of Iranian state-linked violence on British soil.

Al-Qaeda's Senior Leadership Reconstituting Its Global Networks

After years of quietly rebuilding the organization, Al-Qaeda leader Sayf al-Adl, who assumed the group's top position following the death of Ayman al-Zawahiri in 2022, appears to be intensifying efforts to reconnect and synchronize Al-Qaeda's global branches. Particular attention is being focused on strengthening ties between AQAP in Yemen, AQIS in South Asia, and JNIM across West Africa and the Sahel.

Intelligence reporting from several countries affected by these organizations suggests that senior Al-Qaeda central leadership has been actively re-establishing communication channels and operational linkages with regional affiliates. According to these reports, elements of Al-Qaeda's senior command are believed to have relocated from Iran to Afghanistan following 2022, creating new opportunities for coordination across the network.

There are also growing indications that Ibrahim al-Banna, a veteran AQAP leader, has been tasked with facilitating and strengthening connections between Al-Qaeda Central and its regional branches, serving as a key liaison in the group's broader effort to rebuild cohesion across multiple theaters.

At the same time, there is increasing discussion regarding the future trajectory of Al-Shabaab. While the group continues to keep their silence over their allegiance to Al-Qaeda, some observers believe its leadership increasingly views itself as having evolved beyond direct dependence on Al-Qaeda Central. This perception has reportedly grown since the loss of several experienced Al-Qaeda leaders, including Ayman al-Zawahiri, Abu Muhammad al-Masri, and Abu Yahya al-Libi who maintained close connection with AS in their time.

Questions continue to circulate within security and counterterrorism circles about whether Al-Shabaab will remain aligned with Al-Qaeda Central under Sayf al-Adl's leadership or pursue a more independent strategic path. Notably, Al-Shabaab's public messaging has, for some time, largely avoided highlighting its relationship with Al-Qaeda Central, fueling speculation about the nature and direction of that relationship in the years ahead.

Knife attack at #Winterthur train station in #Switzerland.
- #Zurich authorities officially classify it as a terrorist act.
- 31-year-old Swiss-Turkish dual citizen stabbed 3 Swiss men this morning. He was arrested.
- Eyewitnesses and video footage show the attacker running from the station while shouting "Allahu Akbar".
- The attacker was reportedly a fervent #ISIS supporter, considered mentally unstable
- Had prior police records: reported in 2015 for spreading ISIS propaganda and in 2018 for a brawl.
- Lived in #Turkey for about 2 years (returning in 2026).
- All 3 victims (Swiss men aged 28, 43 & 52) were stabbed, one was seriously injured, the others moderately; all were hospitalized.
- Winterthur was one of the main recruitment hotspots for ISIS foreign fighters in Switzerland during the peak years of the Syrian civil war (especially 2014–2016).
- The city gained notoriety due to its An’Nur Mosque, which was repeatedly linked to radicalization. Multiple young men who attended the mosque or associated youth circles traveled to #Syria/#Iraq to join ISIS.
