The decline in quality manufacturing, combined with a lack of consumer education, has led consumers to lower their expectations because they don't know what truly high-quality clothing and footwear look or feel like. If you buy full-grain leather shoes with welted construction, it's not unusual for them to last not just ten years, but twenty, thirty, or sometimes even forty, as long as the owner knows how to care for them properly.
That's because full-grain leather gets better, not worse, with time, unlike its corrected-grain counterparts. When the soles wear down, you can take them to a quality cobbler or bring them back to the original manufacturer and have the soles replaced. The leather insole also takes on the shape of your foot, so they feel comfortable.
Since the uppers only look better with age and you can reliably replace the soles once they wear down, you will both want to repair your shoes and be able to. This is different from lower-quality shoes — trendy shoes, badly made shoes, glued shoes — which look worse with time and are meant to be thrown away after a few years.
Of course, longevity has its limits, as your body naturally changes over time. As you age, your feet flatten and widen. This process speeds up if you run regularly. Plus, your style may change over time, so the style you bought twenty years ago may no longer suit your wardrobe.
However, the shoes below are 25 years old. This is not unusual for this type of construction.
Often see people on here promote certain shoes: "here's a cheaper version of this expensive designer brand" or "here's a popular classic." If they are not explaining how the shoes are made, there's no reason to assume the shoes will last a long time. If you want shoes to last a long time, you will want to look into the dimensions I wrote about in my original post, which is what this person below is replying to.

At first, Jean-Pierre did not understand.
He watched the evening news, paid his taxes, voted responsibly and believed what respectable people told him.
1. France needed immigration because the economy needed workers.
2. Diversity was an opportunity.
3. Public services were under pressure because they lacked funding.
4. Disorder at school was caused by inequality.
5. Crime statistics required context.
6. Anyone who connected these things too quickly was probably an extremist.
Then his children started coming home from school saying they could barely hear the teacher.
Half the lesson was spent restoring order.
Teachers changed constantly.
Some simply disappeared for weeks.
Jean-Pierre complained once, politely.
The administration explained that the situation was “challenging” and that the school was developing an “inclusive pedagogical response.”
Jean-Pierre went home reassured.
There were professionals dealing with it.
His neighbourhood changed too.
Shops closed.
Others appeared.
Groups of men occupied the same corners every evening.
His wife stopped taking one street after dark.
Jean-Pierre noticed all of this, but he had also learned that noticing patterns was dangerous.
So every event remained an isolated event.
One closed shop meant nothing.
One assault meant nothing.
Ten incidents meant ten unrelated incidents.
Only a racist would connect dots.
Then his daughter was sexually assaulted by a man who had recently arrived in France.
Jean-Pierre was devastated.
But almost immediately he began policing his own thoughts.
The attacker was an individual. Of course.
One must never generalise.
The television explained that exploiting such crimes politically was irresponsible.
A minister warned against “stigmatisation.”
Jean-Pierre found himself nodding through tears.
What had happened to his daughter was monstrous, but the truly frightening possibility, apparently, was that somebody somewhere might vote for the wrong party because of it.
Nothing changed.
His son’s school became worse.
His daughter stopped going out alone.
His wife wanted to move.
The police were exhausted.
The teachers were exhausted.
The hospitals were exhausted.
Jean-Pierre was exhausted.
Yet every explanation he had been given required him to believe that each deterioration was temporary, accidental, exaggerated or caused by something entirely unrelated to the deterioration immediately beside it.
And whenever somebody proposed that perhaps the country had made serious mistakes — about migration, authority, education, policing, integration, punishment or borders — Jean-Pierre knew the correct answer.
“Careful. That sounds like the far right.”
So he remained reasonable.
He remained moderate.
He remained informed.
He remained completely incapable of drawing a conclusion from his own life.
So at first, Jean-Pierre did not understand.
And he still does not understand.
The official verdict is absolute Crap!
I'm a Commercial pilot (Complex piston singles) and I have followed this story from the beginning. The official story is pathetic. This will go down in history as one best examples of aviation bravery.
For this story to have the happy ending that it did, 3 things had to happen perfectly:
First, Cpt. Smit who while on the floor (being attacked with an axe!!!) thought "these are my last moments, but I cant let these people die" and somehow opened the cockpit door. Without his bravery and determination, Everybody dies no question.
Second the passengers Yaniv and Yitzhack rushed the cockpit the minute they heard screams. Dont minimize this. Most people in a situation like this would freeze in their seats. Not to mention getting the the front of the plane in a zero G nose over. I'm assuming IDF training (mandatory for all Israelis) but even then excellent reactions under pressure. By rushing to the front immediately, they were on the other side of the door the second that Cpt Smit opened it. The IDF training also probably had a hand in their ability to rapidly neutralize the co-pilot.
Yaniv taking the stick and pulling out of the dive is critical simply because there was no time otherwise. At the rate of decent by that point there is maybe 30s to impact if they keep diving (and they were already past Vne)
However, contrary to popular male ego, a non pilot successfully recovering the plane has odds near zero. Commercial aircraft are huge and have massive momentum. Even in a small plane, if you are too heavy on the controls nothing happens for ten seconds, then next thing you know you are upside down. The most likely outcome after a non-pilot pulling out of a dive would be overcontrolling and triggering a stall. Fortunately (according to Yaniv's interview) the relief pilot took over just as he leveled the plane.
The relief pilots being on board was fortunate, the relief pilot managing to take over the controls before Yaniv could trigger a stall was perfect timing. The pilots were not just random pilots or random airline pilots, they were the relief crew which meant they had hundreds if not thousands of hours in that exact model. Why is this important? Because the co-pilot had smashed the instruments (once again from Yaniv's interview) and the rudder was damaged from exceeding Vne. The relief pilots could handle this as a routine emergency, for a pilot unfamiliar with that airplane and instruments smashed it would be a insurmountable challenge.
Finally the Pilot who thought he was going to die was in luck because on board was a dentist. A dental surgeon no less. Not quite the same an ER doc, but enough to stop major arterial bleeding from multiple wounds.
If somebody doesnt make a great movie out of this it would be a crime. This is aviation history being made.
The real identity of the Omani terrorist pilot linked to the FlyDubai hijacking attempt has been revealed.
His name is Mohammed Hamam Al-Hammami. He was fired by Oman Air in 2024–2025 for regularly browsing extremist websites and expressing support for the Islamic State, jihad, and anti-non-Muslim sentiments during conversations with colleagues. He was hired by FlyDubai without a background check. His mother is of Syrian origin.
He visited Pakistan in August 2026 and Turkey in May 2026.
His diary reportedly contains praise for several terrorists, including Osama bin Laden, Abu Bakr al-Baghdadi, and Maulana Masood Azhar.
It is a truly shocking incident that FlyDubai hired a terrorist as one of its pilots.
Incidents like these make passengers feel extremely unsafe, and one should not be surprised if, in the future, people start asking about a pilot's religion before flying.
Mariupol. Archival footage, but the pain hasn’t faded.
Over 100,000 lives lost — buried under rubble or in mass graves.
How can such horror happen in the 21st century?
How can crimes of this magnitude go without justice?
russia must be held accountable.

At the end of this video in Hebrew, Yaniv Hayoun, the heroic Israeli plumber who helped prevent the hijacked aircraft from crashing yesterday asks Bibi @netanyahu for a favor. He said:
“I’d like one little favor, tell Trump I am crazy about him. A huge supporter!”
@POTUS should send Yaniv a signed MAGA hat.
This is the unfinished homework of 14-year-old Daniel Umansky.
On the morning of September 25, Daniel was sitting in his room in Kyiv, doing his homework.
He was writing about Volodymyr Monomakh, a ruler of Kyivan Rus, and his moral teachings written almost nine centuries ago. The assignment asked Daniel to think about how those principles might be understood today.
He wrote about respecting others, protecting the vulnerable, helping orphans, and other basic human principles.
Daniel never finished his home assignment.
At around 8 a.m., a Russian het drone struck his apartment building in the center of Kyiv.
Daniel was killed in his room. Among the wreckage of the family’s apartment, his school notebook remained open.
There is a terrible symbolism in what Daniel was writing at the moment his life was taken. A 14-year-old boy was trying to put into modern words a centuries-old principle: the strong must not be allowed to destroy the weak.
He never finished that thought. A Russian drone reached his room first. You can see the drops of blood on his school notebook.
Today, Daniel was laid to rest in Israel, where his grandparents live.
In September 2026 alone, there were 235 air alerts in Kyiv. Schools, hospitals, universities, infrastructure, and residential buildings were under deliberate Russian attacks. Hundreds of civilians were injured. Around thirty were killed. Danya was one of them. There should be responsibility. There should be just peace.
His mother was wounded in the same attack, and the family’s home was damaged.
