Neuromancer is top 10 sci-fi canon and it coming to AppleTV is a seminal moment for sci-fi lovers.
Way before its time, 1984, it is the primary inventor of the concepts behind The Matrix. It coined the term cyberspace and the idea of a hacker hero “jacking in” with a neural interface to a virtual reality. Neuromancer is the soul of cyberpunk.
Mind you, it was written is 1984, well before the internet and when the first Macintosh released. “Life imitates art” is rarely truer of books.
You can really view the tech industry today through the concepts in Neuromancer. It’s one of my favorite books. I think it’s sad that the tech has been so mainstream that many people haven’t read the sci-fi canon that has shaped many of the founders and veterans of the industry, and are just extremely pertinent to society today.
Here’s my top 10 postwar scifi books I think everyone should read.
First look poster for the Apple TV+ series 'Neuromancer' based on William Gibson's 1984 novel of the same name.
